@elplatt We did. I'm excited about it! It's going to be great long term but of course the intermediary situation is a bit more stressful :)

Sorry everyone. I'm going to be deeply behind on things for the next few weeks as everything happens for the house and the move and etc. I'm not feeling as productive as usual this month and I feel bad about it.

I hate being in intermediate states, and moving is one of the worst intermediate states of all. We've had to do it too many times over the last number of years. I hope this is the last time ever.

Really great ! thanks for sharing, I didn't knew it whereas I am fond of any LaTeX-for-poor-and-lost-humanists...
There is also a very useful LaTeX-for-SHS-users website and free book there... mainly in French ;-). I wrote my PhD with LaTeX thanks to / because of it. https://geekographie.maieul.net/LaTeX

@bhaugen E is the programming language that Electric Communities Habitat was written in. After EC(H) shut down, the E language survived and lived on as http://erights.org/ so you're absolutely right :)

I'm not sure in what order #Spritely things will come out. I expect a series of regular releases, but *what* comes out will be whatever is most convenient for me to release at that point.

    Near term possibilities:

    - Crystal: How can we bring updateable content to p2p systems? Inspired by Tahoe-LAFS and Freenet's updateable content, but simplified for easy explanation.
    - Crystal Golem: The Golem demo, but now using Crystal URIs!
    - Humanoid: a bare-bones ActivityPub implementation tutorial

At TPAC in 2017, someone asked me, what would I do if I could work on what I was really interested in and cared about? I sheepishly admitted that, well, I'd like to work on social networks as a distributed virtual world / game.

I thought I'd be laughed out of the room. Instead, it turned out that almost everyone I was working with had background in that space. Even the ocap stuff I'd been studying came largely from Electric Communities Habitat.

That gave me the courage to pursue #Spritely.

I hate the "own your data" meme in the decentralized social web. A friend of mine pointed out how useless the phrase is a few years ago and I agree. "Ownership" sounds an awful lot like digital "property", which is nonsense when moving from physical to digital stuff because copying doesn't destroy the original. The path you go down there is the path to artificial constraints like DRM. Yikes!

We should be talking about user autonomy instead. That's a much better meme.

I added a new "Encryption has a shelf life" section to the Caveats section of #Spritely Golem's writeup. It's an important point I hadn't called out previously! https://gitlab.com/spritely/golem/blob/master/README.org

    > Encryption has a shelf life. In general, secure ciphers from about 15 years ago aren’t secure today, so it’s possible that chunks that are currently only readable by intended recipients can eventually be read by anyone who gets their hands on them. [...]

ActivityPub: Hi I'm literally being born because the former primary author of OStatus regretted not having private messages, let's make private messages the default addressing mechanism and public messages a special exception

*Years later, AP is a standard and widely adopted*

Popular meme: "Yeah well ActivityPub is nice and everything but it's too bad its only for public messages"

    Me: ;_;
