@tgall @librelounge that said we achieved a lot of interop points between activitypub and solid so I think we can work together

@tgall @librelounge The Solid folks were part of the SocialWG group initially, then partially left. However we did achieve some interoperability by having Linked Data Notifications and ActivityPub use the same delivery mechanism, and LDN is kind of the bridge between those worlds.

I'm not sold on solid's design however because a) maybe not everyone wants to work at the graph level but more importantly b) it takes an ACL approach which is structurally doomed

Video introduction to Push, a lispy stack-based genetic programming language https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGJWlSC0gl4&t=42s

Push still intrigues me. Though I still wonder if an approach that uses a single stack with generics might be more likely to work in an environment as "squishy" as genetic programming than the separate-stacks approach that Push uses. I wrote up some ideas for that here a while ago: https://dustycloud.org/blog/gush-intro/

@librelounge By the way! Software Freedom Conservancy is currently running a fundraiser with a matching grant! They're about 60% of the way there so now is a great time to donate because your donation currently counts for double! https://sfconservancy.org/supporter/

    Let's get them to 100%!

the first of the two links has some a bit too-early thinking on it but will give you some ideas hopefully

btw, some of the "gaps" that were left in the activitypub spec were intentionally there to enable this to exist https://github.com/WebOfTrustInfo/rebooting-the-web-of-trust-fall2017/blob/master/final-documents/activitypub-decentralized-distributed.md

for example "why didn't activitypub require https as the only valid uri scheme / protocol"

well, the solution to the "content surviving when nodes go down" may rely on the fact that this was left open: https://github.com/WebOfTrustInfo/rwot7/blob/master/topics-and-advance-readings/magenc.md

@scolobb it doesn't work with my scanner but Rekado and others tell me they have no problems

it might be that my scanner is old and unsupported in SANE anymore...

allow me to criticize the state of the fediverse as much as love it:

    - tiny brain: mega-node such as mastodon.social oh dang it we've reinvented twitter
    - regular brain: I'll just choose an instance off of joinmastodon.org oh dang it got shut down everything I love is lost
    - galaxy brain: I'll self host fedi software oh god this is hard I'm afraid to upgrade
    - universe brain: we need to merge the fediverse with p2p network designs so a node going down isn't catastrophic

Doom was released 25 years ago today. It was about 2.39 MB, the size of an average webpage today. News sites average closer to 8 MB.

Please shotgun the javascript demons and make more efficient & accessible websites.
