@tgall@librelounge The Solid folks were part of the SocialWG group initially, then partially left. However we did achieve some interoperability by having Linked Data Notifications and ActivityPub use the same delivery mechanism, and LDN is kind of the bridge between those worlds.
I'm not sold on solid's design however because a) maybe not everyone wants to work at the graph level but more importantly b) it takes an ACL approach which is structurally doomed
@ckeen@librelounge oh ha, I think you got it when it was .xml for like the briefest of moments, when I was figuring out what to call the feed... sorryyyyy
Push still intrigues me. Though I still wonder if an approach that uses a single stack with generics might be more likely to work in an environment as "squishy" as genetic programming than the separate-stacks approach that Push uses. I wrote up some ideas for that here a while ago: https://dustycloud.org/blog/gush-intro/
@librelounge By the way! Software Freedom Conservancy is currently running a fundraiser with a matching grant! They're about 60% of the way there so now is a great time to donate because your donation currently counts for double! https://sfconservancy.org/supporter/
time to dd an install image to a usb stick and check the device in the command and that my backups are up to date a billion times before hitting enter first
allow me to criticize the state of the fediverse as much as love it:
- tiny brain: mega-node such as mastodon.social oh dang it we've reinvented twitter - regular brain: I'll just choose an instance off of joinmastodon.org oh dang it got shut down everything I love is lost - galaxy brain: I'll self host fedi software oh god this is hard I'm afraid to upgrade - universe brain: we need to merge the fediverse with p2p network designs so a node going down isn't catastrophic
Guess I need to install debian on one of my old machines just so I can scan images and download images from my phone, neither of which I have ever gotten working on Guix SD
