Lots of people weren't around for when the fediverse was at its first peak at around 2010-2011. Google Plus swept in and plenty of people quit the fediverse saying "Google will do a better job keeping this running than independent sites can." For this and some other reasons, for some time the fediverse was a ghost town.
The demo I'm working on at this hackathon is for a secure way of hosting content so that if your instance goes down, your content can survive, and if your content becomes popular, the whole network can help balance the work of hosting it. #activitypub#wizardstower2019
@elomatreb@rick_777 A few projects do implement it but most of those that do only have a couple of users.
The C2S API is easier to implement the S2S API. So much so that at one point when we were running out of time in the SocialWG we considered *only* publishing the C2S API because it's such an easier deliverable. The main reason it hasn't happened is that the S2S API became popular and the C2S didn't. Inertia.
Want to hack on ActivityPub/fediverse stuff before FOSEM? @sl007 is graciously hosting a hackathon in Vlissingen and fediverse friends are invited to come! I'll be there and hacking on Spritely! https://indieweb.org/2019/Vlissingen
Don't ask people "when are you having kids". Especially not women, who suffer this question a lot. ("Are you having kids" is a more okay question *if you know the person well*, but only sometimes.)
They might be, they might not be, and yes they've probably thought about it, and no, it's none of your business.
There have been some posts about ActivityPub I haven't replied to. I think a couple of them were directly trying to bait my interest, given how often I have talked about Worse Is Better and lisp machines vs unix here, and how I have been talking about bringing object capabilities to ActivityPub since before AP was even a W3C recommendation. (You don't need to throw out AP to do it.)
However, instead of just writing about things, I'll be building solutions. Announcement coming early Feb.
