I should probably re-brand #Mailpile's bayesian "auto-tagging" feature as "artificial intelligence", shouldn't I? ๐ค

> A TOTAL WITCH HUNT LIKE NO OTHER IN AMERICAN HISTORY!
I mean, I know it's been said before, but what about the people who were drowned for being suspected to be witches

@craigmaloney @Greg Yes, sadly I don't think we're fulfilling our duties.

@cwebber @Greg Sadly I've always had this feeling that we were the last generation to have it on easy mode, and we're blowing it.
I know every generation feels they're the last ones, but I'm starting to suspect that we might make good on that promise.

@craigmaloney @Greg Yeah I hear that. Though I don't mean to leave this as pessimism or fatalism. Let me reframe what message I wish to get across:
We aren't the sum of our previous generation's fuckups. We *all* have a debt to the next generation, even if the previous generations didn't, as a whole, succeed for us. We can't use that as an excuse to care for the generations to come... that would be unfair to them.

Code of conducts are not new mechanisms, but codifications of policies, which is not a new practice either; online communities have always established rules and policies. The free software community more so than others even: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2018-10/msg00612.html

Someone wrote to the GNU Guix mailing list asking to drop the Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct in favor of the GNU Kind Communication Guidelines. I like Ludovic Courtรจs (Guix's founder/co-maintainer)'s response http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2018-10/msg00436.html

I am extremely frustrated with the GNU "Kind Communication" announcement http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2018-10/msg00001.html
Extremely tone deaf (especially footnote 2); puts down CoCs and ignores their motivations; would have been better to say nothing than publish this right now.
Ludo' of GNU Guix project has a good reply here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18275156
Especially frustrated with "people might have quit". I *did* quit g-p-d because of how *badly* the diversity conversation was going.
