Read the spring / summer issue of the #fsfbulletin last week, each thing in good time. This is my first message here and I got to know about mastodon through the #fsfbulletin, they had an interview with Eugen Rochko.

    Hello to everybody

@tomnor Yup! Though I think Python is hurt a bit even more by its significant whitespace (which, don't get me wrong! I kind of love Python's significant whitespace for its ease of reading)

@charlag 8sync is an asynchronous actor model system. The video really does explain things much better: I show a MUD where the audience is playing and I'm able to change things running in the game per player suggestions without kicking them out. You can "grow" a system as it runs. I don't know a way of doing this in a static typed environment.

It's taken me until doing more stuff in lisp to realize how not exactly great Python's REPL is:

    - multi-line expressions are such a pain. Editing a multi-line expression after first entering it is much worse.
    - ipython can help here, but then you lose some nice emacs integration.
    - On that note, live hacking barely exists in Python.
    - no awareness of "what module you're hacking in".

    I've become spoiled...

You can trigger a canary script quite simply with udev:

echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"sd*[!0-9]\", RUN+=\"/usr/local/bin/my-canary\"" > /etc/udev/rules.d/00-usb-canary.rules And the script could contain any notification method you prefer.

@kkebreau I think it popped out when I ate a date but I'm not sure. I accidentally bit down hard on a a cherry pit earlier this week, and it's a gum-line filling, so the pressure might have made it break then. Don't know when it happened.

It doesn't hurt so I'm hopeful it will be an easy fix.

@lertsenem @Alda Yes, we have federation code from the Pump API which preceded ActivityPub, written by @tsyesika (but not yet merged into master). It needs retooling because a lot changed in ActivityPub.

Unfortunately the SocialWG is tying me up until the end of the year, hence "not until 2018".

@kensanata @bob Yeah I thought that was pretty cool... would be cool to see a blogpost on its own showing how to hook that up!

@CobaltVelvet I don't play multiplayer games much, though when I played Xonotic / Red Eclipse I did see this happen to anyone in rare times they dared present as a woman.

I did speak up when I saw it, though I got kicked from servers for being a "white knight" for saying anything. I know it's a lot more distressing for anyone suffering actual harassment all the time.

Sorry humanity sucks, gaming culture particularly. I hope things can get better though I'm not as optimistic as I used to be.

@cwebber @bremner Nope, Hy debuggability hasn't improved much, unfortunately. :(

I adore the language, and even though *I* put it into production at two companies by now, that is not a practice I would recommend to anyone else. It's great for one-offs, as a tool to build a small DSL when you are already embedding python (as an option, along with python), but anything bigger... it's too much of a moving target still.
