@jk Who would design a circuit where a shorted diode will fry a chip? I can't think of a sane circuit involving a diode that would fry an IC unless it's something ridiculous like relying on the voltage drop of a diode to power a low-voltage circuit instead of using a regulator like any sane engineer would do unless under extreme pressure to save money on components...

Coffee and milk doesn't agree with me at the moment. Stomach gets in a twist over it. They surgeons did rearrange things in there in a major way, so I'm not exactly shocked, but old habits are hard to break. There are foods that my stomach freaked out over initially that I've managed to gradually get it to agree with again by rebuilding tolerance, but I unfortunately don't drink coffee and milk all that often.

@mxmehl Eh, in many respects, the only difference between that and a criminal record is that they're open about it, and have a lower threshold for what they'll put on it. Does this have any consequence what so ever if you act like a civilised person?

@kaniini What language is your name from? The Norwegian word for rabbit is "kanin", but your name looks vaguely Finnish.

Sometimes, it's hard to tell if people are German or Scandinavian. You'll see some person with a name like Anders or Kristian, and they'll look kind of Scandinavian in the avatar, and then you see the .de in their instance name, and you're like, nope, it's a German. Statistically speaking, it'll be a German 3 times out of 4, because Germany's population is about 4 times larger than that of Scandinavia.

@werekat I usually end up ordering on eBay or AliExpress and waiting 4-8 weeks for it. I don't know of any web shops nearby that offer parts at such prices with virtually free shipping.

@werekat In other words, three countries (four if you count Finland, technically not Scandinavian, but nearby) with the population of one not particularly large European country. The UK has 3X more people and Germany has 4X more people. The economies of scale don't work out, I suspect.

@werekat Sounds familiar. There is ELFA Distrelec, which seems to exist in Sweden, but they usually don't stock your typical Chinese grey market parts. Kjell & Co sells some very basic components that they seem to have mostly imported from China (some of their parts are 100% identical to parts you can find on eBay/AliExpress for a fraction of the price).

I think the main challenge in Scandinavia is supply and demand. Our entire region has the population of Romania.

@werekat I need a better source for this part if I'm going to build multiple units. Maybe I will have to start scavenging broken motherboards for it. Not ideal if I'm going to sell this thing to anyone, though. I'm surprised that "multi-floor" 3.5mm jacks are so hard to find. I need to fit about 9 of them along the narrow side of a 100x150mm case, and you need about 10mm per jack, and I also need to fit a DC power jack, and that's over 100mm, so...

@werekat The seller hasn't replied, but Ali Express isn't good about stating part numbers. It just says "PS2" for the model number and I can make out something like L0725, LO725, L0723 or LO723 on the photo, but Google doesn't turn up anything for it.

Some Mastodon apps: Let's also NOT allow you to actually perform that refresh if you're viewing a thread, leaving you with no option but to go back and forward in order to view your own reply, or any other reply that may have appeared since the thread last loaded.
