@Ilja@rysiek@gargron I see. I wouldn't be opposed to there being any option for markdown for those who choose that. But it would not be the best use of the developer time to prioritize creating this option over other work, IMHO.
@rysiek@gargron Please no! Don't break expected behaviour for most users. When I say *stares angrily* I want to mark it as being something I do, not something I shout.
@Corvusheart Sure! The point was probably not to say that anti capitalist communities are terrible. Just that it's naive to think that those communities will automatically be good on these dimensions
After all of this it was very heartening to read this comment. The title made me think it would go the other direction, but this is really, really good.
And although it's only 67% upvoted, it is upvoted. Please go over and give it one more!
@cwebber@algernon People don't grow and change it their points of view aren't challenged. That's why it's not a mistake to go to the places where the toxicity breeds. In fact it's dangerous to spread the meme that these places should be left alone, I think. We need to go in and challenge people, and support others who do. I've commented a bit, and upvoted others.
@BrokenBiscuit There is the legitimate concern that if the wording of what is dickish behaviour is too vague then the rules can be misused to get rid of people someone don't like.
And then there are people who just don't care about others feelings. I'm afraid most of the comments are from this camp.
People's life experiences gives them different perspectives. You can't see what perspectives you're missing. That's kind of the point. More diverse groups creating things together will make a better product, for more people.
Wow. Linus says it's time to be a bit kinder to each other, and parts of the community has a meltdown. Hope this will rid us of some of the most toxic people and get more developers in to help this most important project become as good as possible.
If there are flaws in the CoC, and I'm sure there are, it is of course important to fix them. But on the whole a CoC is a good thing for everyone, except those who just want to scream insults at others. Feel free to do that somewhere else.
Could it be possible to create a blockchain token where the proof of work is actually work on folding@home and other important and useful distributed computing projects like that, instead of just burning energy doing nothing?
The prime minister of Samoa has called climate change an “existential threat ... for all our Pacific family” and said that any world leader who denied climate change’s existence should be taken to a mental hospital.
@Conductor_we_have_a_problem Hehe. I'm not sure I'll actually use it, yet. But I like what I've seen so far. Except I prefer Gnome Shells way of showing me my open windows in the same view where I can also search to open new applications
