    Le format MHTML

    https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME_Encapsulation_of_Aggregate_Documents,_such_as_HTML

@mike Which is weird since you can find most podcasts by typing "<title> podcast" into your favorite search engine.

All other decentralized things would benefit greatly from some kind of searchable recommendation sharing thingy ala del.icio.us.

Hey kids when you're designing awesome decentralised stuff, don't forget discoverability. I mean podcasts, conceptually, are perfectly decentralised but when I ask someone about their podcast 90% of the time they tell me to look it up on iTunes.

@Feoh @Vertigo I agree that software is inherently volatile. In civil engineering there aren't too many layers above physical and chemical limitations, and we've explored those layers for thousands of years.

In software the foundations for building your software is more software. To some extent, physical limitations offer constraints, but mostly the constraints are mathematical and the potential variations inside those constraints are mindboggling.

Part of the reason we get anything done in software at all, is that we apply artificial restraints, mostly caused by arbitrary historical happenstance, and don't explore and change those foundations every time we build something new.

Sometimes brave souls do explore and recreate parts of the foundations, and then the whole craft needs to be re-evaluated again.

Proudly written in PHP, Pixelfed has embraced a UI driven development approach.

Users don't care if :pixelfed: is using the latest or coolest framework or fancy tech, they care about the experience and what they see or feel.

I'd love to see more "uncool" projects in the fediverse.

There is git-ssb (Scuttlebutt) which is fully P2P git repos with a gui. Probably isn't that usable yet though.

You solve that with open federated protocols tying many small solutions and providers together.

This is a note to people moving their repositories blindly to Gitlab.org: do you know Google is actually a huge investor in Gitlab?

The issue is not about Microsoft buying Github. The issue is about centralization and silos.

You do not solve that by moving your data from one silo to another.

You solve that by relying on small providers you can trust, or by becoming a provider yourself.

This is sorta what Sensorica created Value Equations for. Keep track of all the contributions. When some money comes in, reward all the contributors.

Here''s how it works in their software. Might not fit in all details, but I am mostly trying to give you the idea.

To build such a thing requires some innovations (that may already exist):

    - Discovery of other Adlis servers (each Adlis server is an actor?) or Adlis-compatible (NodeInfo?)
    - Sharing information about new Adlis-compatible peers (P2P sharing algorithm that isn't N squared?)
    - I don't want Adlis to have users (people) and instead let people use their accounts from other instances to create, edit, publish, or leave comments (OAuth2?)
    - Create the #ActivityStreams extension to federate the specs

  15. cj 🇺🇸🇨🇭 (cj@mastodon.technology)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Feb-2019 04:44:12 EST cj 🇺🇸🇨🇭 cj 🇺🇸🇨🇭

This would let #ActivityPub developers go to any Adlis server to see all ActivityStreams extensions and specs building off AP. So the knowledge is distributed such that it appears to be centralized at every instance (like a centralized AP authority), but the actual power would be distributed to many communities (unlike a centralized AP authority).

The communities adopting this tool could be domain specific (ex: ForgeFed) or software specific (ex: Mastodon). IDK it's not up to me.

Or, so I thought. :) Looking at other discussions floating around, I want to get the ideas out there. It overlaps with existing ideas, and some of it is not new.

First, I am trying to get the copyright to a tool I am calling Adlis. I call it a "tool" but it would be an ActivityPub server. It would be a tool for existing communities to create, publish, maintain, and invite commentary on their ActivityStreams extensions.

When publishing, the spec would be federated to other Adlis servers.

I would love that all Fediverse networks have a common endpoint with a common API URL like:

    example.net/api/info

    {"software":"Mastodon", "version":"2.71"}

That would easily allow applications to know what network is running behind the domain name.

    Good question @bhaugen

It seems most #PlatformCoops haven't figured out that they have different kind of members let alone how to fairly share value among them:

    - core value proposition workers (eg bike delivery bikers)
    - beneficiaries / partners (eg local shops)
    - patrons (eg clients)
    - initiators / creators (eg innovation / design/ development)
    - support workers (eg systems maintenance / community facilitation / tech support)
    - promoters (eg member outreach / partnerships with other co-ops)
    - (and maybe others, depending on each case)

As for me, I don't usually *expect* up-front compensation as an initiator, because:
    1) there's often no budget for it, outside of capitalism
    2) it often feels like play, at least when it's new

But I do need to eat so I often do lots of support work as well, and do expect compensation when I'm expected to act like a 24/7 on-call janitor. The stress alone...
