There will be an Umbrella Academy season 4?
I thought revealing all the backstory and literally fixing the universe was a pretty solid end to the series.
It's coming out on August 8th. I will watch it, of course.

Spock's great grandpa Solkar apocryphally shook hands with Zephram Cochrane at first contact. Canonically he was the first ambassador to Earth.
Spock's grandpa Skon translated Vulcan scripture into English. Apocryphally ambassador to Earth.
Sarek married human women twice and was, again, ambassador to Earth.
Spock comes from a long line of human-entangled eccentrics.

@Mans R Well, they may or may not be an universitet, but perhaps at this point they all are. -

@LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} Hehe, "high" is the true cognate to "hΓΆg".
American "high school", secondary school, years 10β12, is "gymnasium" in Swedish, for weird reasons I haven't looked into for a while and forgot. So that's why the term "high school" is still available for tertiary education.

@Digital Mark Ξ» βοΈ βοΈ πΉ @Kit Rhett Aultman Ok, so I had the right impression: A "college" is kind of like a "hΓΆgskola" and a "university" is kind of like an "universitet", but it's treated loosely. -

In Sweden, higher education is split into "school of higher education" ("hΓΆgskola") and "university" ("universitet").
To become a university, a school of higher education must perform a certain amount of research rather than just teaching, and depending on the subject, a school of higher education might only be allowed to award bachelor's degrees, whereas a university can award master's degrees and doctorates.
In English communications, most of these institutions call themselves a "university", regardless of whether they are an "universitet" in the Swedish system.
Is there any distinction like this in the UK or US systems? Is there a shorthand for expressing something similar to this distinction in English?
I know the US has some community colleges that don't call themselves universities, but I don't know if that's anything more than an informal prestige thing or if there is an actual difference in services? And then there are a bunch of places that call themselves "university" but don't seem very serious at all, so I guess it's not a protected title?

People in China vaccinated against smallpox in the 16th century. Vaccination is part of "medicine as practiced in traditional China". Ancient people were smart, figured things out and did things that seemed to work. The things that stood the test of time have been retained within modern medicine.
"Traditional Chinese Medicineβ’" was constructed in the 1950s from random bits of lore to create national cohesion and provide low-cost healtcare that felt more caring than being told to wait and see.
When you see people in "historical" dramas taking people's pulse to diagnose illnesses, pregnancy, etc, or acupuncture and cupping being used as miracle medicine, that's not drawn from ancient sources, that's modern myth-making. Those magical powers came from wuxia (kung fu fiction) and from government promotion.
Practitioners used these techniques to understand the body, but they didn't claim the fantastic powers some people today ascribe to "TCM". Cupping was a form of bloodletting, just like Europeans used to do not so long ago.

The one time I'm grateful for the laziness and shortsightedness of big corporations is when their anti-features don't work on the non-Chromium browser, so that you can access their content without their app. -

@Kermode A sealion is a person who repeatedly and persistently shows up in the threads of strangers to advance their hobby horse topic, maybe because that's what the thread is somewhat about, maybe just out of the blue.
It's a form of seemingly low-intensity and polite harrassment, but may not feel so low-intensity and polite to the receiver after a while.
Why "sea lion"? This comic strip introduced the term, with a literal sea lion butting into conversation to address the perception that sea lions always butt into conversations:

Reminder that you are an omnivore, a predator, and a pretty big one at that. You are not a bee or an ant. It is, in fact, normal for you to just want to lay around not producing anything. Youβre a mammal. Stop judging yourself for not being a hive insect.

@Kermode @tootbrute They do, except when they don't. π
It's highly contextual. And there's a big difference in application between "China" and "Chinese". The term "Chinese" for the language or languages is even more complex.

The usual name for Chinese New Year in Hong Kong Cantonese is "luhng lihk sΔn nihn", which translates to "agricultural calendar New Year", as the lunisolar calendar defines the dates for seasonal events.
According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_β¦ , apparently the Mainland calls the public holiday the "Spring Festival".

@Kermode I was recently surprised that a local colleague was surprised when I compared my impressions of "Chinese cities" Taipei, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macao and Hong Kong. But I don't if his reaction was a unique Hongkonger reaction or if a Taiwanese would react the same way. -

@Kermode Taipei and Beijing agree that Taiwan is Chinese, they only disagree on which government legally rules it. π
Official views aside, it's true that more and more people on Taipei streets consider Taiwan a country, so maybe some of them consider "Chinese" as referring to the Mainland.
