I'm seeing a lot of statements recently of the nature "this bad behavior wouldn't have been so widespread if people hadn't insisted so hard on good behavior".

Stay progressive and reactionaries will eventually die out. Set good examples and be good examples. People who can't handle it are not your responsibility.

@Kermode I thought the German spelling reform was a unilateral move by the German government, but you are correct, it was an agreement by the three major countries in the German language area plus Liechtenstein.

I'm surprised to hear that the school system in Nordrhein-Westfalen didn't fully adopt it until 2006, because I lived there in 2005 and everyone in civil society was using the modernized spelling since years back.

@Kermode Yeah, the same calendar is used by multiple cultures in Asia, so it's certainly not exclusively Chinese. But the reason it's celebrated and is a public holiday in Hong Kong is because it is also Chinese.

"Lunar New Year" is vague, as there are many lunar and lunisolar calendars. It only means something in a cultural context where it's obvious which Lunar New Year you mean.

I wasn't sure what to expect from "Argylle", but it quickly became unexpected. And then it became something else again. And again.

It was an absolutely ridiculous movie. I loved it. The less you know about it going in, the better.

I laughed so much and the visuals were pure art, the second most ridiculous scene was the most beautiful one.

My friend said it reminded him of Kingsmen, also by Matthew Vaughn. Will watch.

@Brie Mmm It says some people tried to make the "Gesturanto" name stick early on, but "International Sign" is the name people have mostly settled on by now.

But it seems the definition is "whatever people end up doing in an international setting" more than any standardized vocabulary and grammar.

Every episode so far in S2 has me laughing or sobbing, or often laugh-sobbing. The swings are really wide, the show doesn't restrain itself and the character arcs are intense.

It can't possibly stay this good for another almost-two seasons.
