@Aerdan Well, here's the thing: this app in question is for a >$300 device. Chances are, if you can afford such an expensive keyboard, you can also afford a modern computer. Unlike Discord, this app is not going to be running long. Fire it up when you want to change your keymap, the close it.

We do provide CLI tools too, but then you don't get the benefits of a GUI.

If I had to go native, I just wouldn't, and then noone would have a GUI. With Electron, most do. Most is better than none.

@alcinnz As far as I can tell, all major toolkits lack that.

@alcinnz Display is easy, yes. But I want to be able to click on parts of it (the keys), and have that do *something*. If the keyboard would use a traditional layout, that would be less of a problem, I could have 101 buttons or something. But the layout I have is... very far from that.

Well, boo-hoo. GIMP doesn't look native on my GNOME3. Neither does Chromium or Firefox. Or Emacs. Or any QT application.

So yeah, go on and refuse to use Electron apps, its your choice. But don't spew hate on those who develop with it. Many have very good reasons to do so.

It is doable, but it is tremendously more development effort. I'm very happy if the Electron haters have that many resources, I don't.

So I'm grateful for Electron, and I will use it when it is the most appropriate tool for the task. I will use native toolkits when that makes sense, and I have the resources required to make it work. But then I'll only support Linux, because that's the only platform I can reasonably test on.

Used to use https://uk.hama.com/00004071/hama-ball-mini-tripod-l-white before, but these new ones are much more stable.

Mind you, my setup only works if you are at a standing desk. The tent & tilt angles I use are mighty uncomfortable when sitting. I use the octo-feet the rare times I sit for a longer period; not perfect, but good enough for rare use.

Can't take a picture, because my desk is a mess, and I'd have to clean up first. Sorry!

They used to be separate, but I ended up ditching that idea.

TL;DR: Ommatidia is my codename for a custom #trackball I want to build, that goes well with my #Model01 keyboard.

Ooof. I need to push #Ommatidia further. Recently, I started working from home full-time, which means I use the #Model01 much more (not just for my personal projects, but for work too). As I use it at a high tenting angle, reaching down to the trackball is increasingly annoying.

I had a couple of good ideas back in May, need to revisit those and start planning in earnest.

@debugninja My instance has less than a handful users (6 to be precise), and I've been running it for more than a year now I think. My DB is 14.5gb, 5.72gb is the statuses table.

This does seem kinda excessive, indeed. Looking at the stats, said table never had a VACUUM, which might explain why it is so large.

Tried it before, but it wasn't feeling good, didn't really fit into my existing workflow. (I use IRC too, and the way I have that set up is not suitable for these, but that's the only way I can use IRC, because I'm old and cranky :p)

This sounds like such an easy thing to implement, yet, nothing I tried so far had it. Or if they did, they did not support extensions.

I'd love to move away from Chrome, but this is an essential feature for me. This is how I use Mastodon, Discord, and Slack with (two of those I need for work too).

I hope there's a browser out there supporting it, so I won't have to write my own. :|

Is there any reasonable #browser out there, that can do the same as #Chrome's `--app` switch?

That is, open a window bound to the specified URL (kinda), no URL bar, no tabs. Just the view of the page. At the same time, all the extensions I have available in the active profile, are active here too. Links outside of the domain open in my default browser window.

#Firefox can't do it out of the box, and all the solutions I found for it involved setting up a new profile, which defeats the purpose.

Oh, boy, they're so not happy. I feel a little bit evil now, might patch up the holes I used to root 'em. Might.

Evil me is quite enjoying seeing them trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

But alas, it is time for me to sleep. If I sleep, they shall too, and silence shall commence. After few moments of modem dial sounds and white noise.

I think a Windows update will be a nice touch in the end.

@cwebber I... considered being more vengeful. In the end, I figured I'd be pretty mad if someone did permanent damage to my system, so why should I do that to someone else? Sure, it is one annoyingly loud party late at night, but anything more than playing better music would not be appropriate.

Truth be told, what I'm doing isn't appropriate either. I'll have to patch the holes up once I'm done, to make up for it.
