why do these games always have to get spooky

i'm confused because when we landed on this moon the dialogue mentioned the robot taking us to multiple previous archaeological sites but like

no, this was the first one...? so I can't tell if I was like, did I do Too Well, or did I do Too Badly?? Did I miss assumed red herrings or did I miss important things??!??!?!?!?!

@aldersprig because those aren't really "acts of fae magic" at all, conceptually - they may be the _result_ of them, ultimately, but the concept itself is "a region of the world which has its own rules of existence caused by imbued magic and leftover effects from spells"

@packbat i would disagree entirely with your hypothesis that video game subculture has always been dominated by and a product of toxic masculinity, however, and would suggest instead that this is a more recent development which has, similarly to the field of automated computation, resulted in video games being thoroughly overrun by the group

@packbat well, my question was really "when", not "why"

I have a good idea of why >.> it's as you said a reflection of toxic masculinity and taking on "gamer" as a self-worth identity for such individuals, combined with the increased gatekeeping towards the privileged by ridiculously high price tags, which then causes them to apply their dysfunctional competitiveness and privileged entitlement to the entire medium

@packbat also, people never kept cheat codes secret, so I don't think that first assessment is accurate either
