@skoll Hipster fonts? Like those extremely thin fonts that are suffering to look at from a non-HiDPI screen (and sometimes even there)?
-
@clacke Poe's law is a thing :-).
-
@johnnynull Well, yeah. Respecting other people to have different opinions never goes but one way either.
- We do this.
- Hm, but why?
- For these reasons.
- These reasons appear to be weak, I have these arguments against them.
- Too bad.
-
@johnnynull Just saying: in some countries atheism is considered a mental illness.
-
@johnnynull Homosexuality as a mental illness is a funky one as it depends on how to define mental illnesses. Every deviation from the norm can be described as such but the norm can be nuts as well. So, you know, depends.
The real question though is whether thinking homosexuality is a mental illness is a sign of a mental illness :3.
(disclaimer: no, it is not, being merely not intellectually bright is universally accepted as a kind of norm)

@johnnynull Thing is, humans are by design made to make conclusions based on incomplete data. A lot of time humans confuse incomplete conclusions with legit ones because memory is a joke.
Point is, every human believes in something silly so it all depends on the willingness of the said person to fix their beliefs based on better evidence, so… not being arrogant basically :-).
-
@maiyannah Sweet irony :-).
That generalisation about generalisations always being trash is trash. Rule confirmed :-P.
-
@johnnynull I should point out that by "respect" here I mean taking the other person seriously.
I also realise now that my wording is bad: it's not opinions themselves that should be respected but people who have them. Thin difference, I got caught in it myself.
So, confront, discuss but actually listen to the input.
-
@johnnynull It depends on the environment though.
I generally like the notion with opinions on Linux.org.ru: the site is not a complete dump, but opinions of no one are treasured there either. It's a comradeship where everyone thinks everyone else is worthless scum and accepts the same to oneself.
Maybe I'm completely wrong and focusing on wrong things, but who knows…
Ugh, those kinds of generalisations are always trash, but I don't want to remove all the text I wrote :-).
-
@johnnynull I'm glad you liked it :-).
-
@johnnynull I do, I don't mind other opinions even if they contradict mine if the author makes good points from his perspective / axioms and respects opinions of others.
It's not like my perfect "social" experience is being in a bubble.
-
@johnnynull I didn't follow the link but I assume the colour is brown.
-
@mjn Are you implying aliens are necessarily non-persons? That's human-ist / species-ist :-).
-
@kat Noses provide some protection from whatever one is inhaling, mouths don't. That is, purifying the air and warming it up.
I think, for exercises trainers usually tell to inhale with the nose and exhale with the mouth.
-
@thor It is known that the more progressive the place, the less religious are the people. I think it's due to people in better conditions having less of a need in reassurance that everything is not hopeless.
So what I'm trying to say is fixing religions is not fixing the problem, it's fixing the hack that makes people not feeling so terrible about their lives.

@thor The Russian one is unambiguous, which is "oladyi" (or "oladya" singular). What about "oladia"? Just a little letter change and the word looks a lot nicer already.
