Girl, are you a classroom? Because you are a room or place especially in a school in which classes are conducted: a second-floor classroom; an outdoor classroom. . π

@ink_slinger @Elizafox I keep fantasizing about a feature that effectively accomplishes this, but only leverages a single account.
Friendica and Hubzilla effectively have this with per-contact profiles, where different sides of yourself are presented to different groups of people.
Basically it'd be a hybrid of Diaspora Aspects + Per-Contact Profiles. I'd call them Contexts or something.

@Elizafox Do people really refer to those as Aspects?
I've always used that term to refer to the contact list segmentation that Diaspora uses for post access.

@calvin That's a fair insight. However, I will say that macOS has a tremendous amount of cruft at this point, and the core priorities of Apple's development has somewhat neglected the desktop in favor of their mobile OS.
Though, rapid release development for Windows sounds pretty awful.

It's not a perfect comparison. Apple continues to dominate in mobile, and Microsoft isn't that great as far as selling or streaming media is concerned. Microsoft isn't a giant as far as hardware goes, either.
But isn't it interesting that the dominant, slow giant of old has effectively become the fresh underdog in the public's perception, whereas the fresh underdog has become the opposite?

I feel like we're finally hitting a point where Microsoft and Apple have in a sense become one another.
Apple has become early 2000's Microsoft. Their desktop OS is bloated, inconsistently designed, developed at a glacial pace, and apparently pretty insecure.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has effectively become the early 2000's Apple: Windows has completely been redesigned from the ground up, and the company has taken on a strategy to contribute and leverage the Open Source ecosystem extensively.

Itching to get hold of Linux Tycoon 2 from @BryanLunduke on May 8th, but can't wait? Fear not, the "classic" MS-DOS version is now available as a snap!

@kaniini I've actually built a pretty okay Medium frontend clone before; the only really important thing for me at this point is to have a backend that supports federation.
Maybe I'll hack on it, given some of the things I've learned from you about feather. Which I also need to start making commits for... π

@kaniini Yeah, I've been thinking about this as maybe the ultimate solution. As long as it supports an Article activity type for long-form HTML content, and a status type for comments, I think that could be a good approach.
I'd also love for each article preview to get federated out as a status type, for microblogging apps that are subscribed to it.

@dielan @dtluna I want something where the article and its comments are federated. I've considered using Wordpress with a plugin, but deep down I hate Wordpress. I've considered Hubzilla but it would require a huge transformation to get the job done. I've considered writing something from scratch, but I'm not confident about an ActivityPub implementation.

@dtluna Two factors: sheer laziness, and a lack of software that does exactly what I want.

@dtluna It's healthy to constantly evaluate. People change as they're forced to learn from experiences and occasionally have biases shattered along the way.

Things so broken that they can't be mended
Squabbling over scrap piles that we've defended.
