I can't wait for that exciting new era where #Pleroma gets coverage by news outlets and everyone says that Lain invented "The Pleroma Network", even though it's just the fediverse.

I want to #DeleteFacebook, but all of my friends and family are on there.

Maybe if I post an update that says "hey, I'm leaving in 24 hours, here's how you can contact me / here's where my social web persona lives", and download all of the photos I want to save, that would be a good start?

It's not like I actually enjoy Facebook at this point, it's just that my footprint there is huge and that's how everyone gets a hold of me.

Really nice write-up about the #fediverse by @srol , it mostly talks about #Mastodon, but I feel the same way towards the whole network. It's actually a really positive aspect of my life and I enjoy taking part in it.

    #BAMF update

The Bay Area Members of the Fediverse has not yet had a meetup. I had hoped to shoot for January of this year, but my timeline has slipped.

I'm happy to say that I am looking to unofficially officially hold the first meetup in April 2018. Exact Date and Location will be decided before the end of March.

The goal is to provide a space where people can chat, hang out, talk about their hobbies, and let their freak flags fly.

And maybe talk about decentralized federated stuff.

@kelbot Yeah, from every account that I've heard, the memory footprint is orders of magnitude smaller than that of Mastodon. This is largely because Elixir sits on top of the Erlang process VM (called BEAM), which by default utilizes a single thread with all operations performed inside of it.

A new version of the Firefox web browser is available to download. Firefox 59 is something of a modest update compared to the whizz-bang change-logs of the past few releases. But, even, there are still some notable changes on offer here, including enhanced privacy controls. Firefox 59 Changes The unified search bar

Sensibilities and taste aside, this is the stuff of cyberpunk fiction and the concepts being explored beyond sexuality alone are tantalizing.

The idea of a robot with configurable personas, appearance, and gender configurations is fucking wild beyond belief.

@kaniini @lain The funny thing is that it's relatively easy for an idiot like me to implement OStatus in an app, barring a few technical details that are unclear between implementations (Salmon comes to mind).

But as far as AP is concerned, it gets incredibly vague very early on, and I'm left wondering what to even implement first.

There’s very little here to set the platform apart from its peers, either within the federated web or the blockchain world.

#Vero is yet another capitalist silo that seeks to monetize user-generated content without paying the users who generate the content. But we're supposed to have warm fuzzies about it because they'll charge a subscription fee to every user after the first million suckers instead of pushing ads?

Fuck Vero. It deserves to fail and die.
