@guardthebananas I'm pretty happy with Hugo. It's more complex than what I need, but the complexity doesn't get in the way too much.
I have it setup with a git-based workflow which is pretty convenient for me, but I imagine it would be terrible for someone who doesn't use git daily :)
Cool, I like the idea of using static redirect pages (I'm less concerned about search engines than I am about existing articles/posts/etc. on other sites that link to the original server).
I might be able to re-use some of the bits I used in the migration to generate those pages automatically...
Thanks for the tip!
@jjg you probably could put an http redirect in the page position of every current page and redirect to the new server, but that won't do much for you with regard to search engines. You should do a proper 301 on the server. If you are running Apache, you might be able to do a careful regex based 301 in just one or two lines depending on the new URL structure
Re - migrating the blog:
I'm looking for a good way to redirect links to the old site (http://jjg.2soc.net) to where I've archived the content on the new site (https://jasongullickson.com/tags/gullicksonlaboratories/).
I want to avoid anything that requires much server-side work. Minimally I'll setup a redirect, but it would be cool if there was a simple way to redirect old links directly to the new content location.
I'm wondering if there's a client-side/JavaScript solution for this or if it will require me to mess-around with server configuration (which I want to avoid for various reasons).
Got "Gullickson Laboratories" migrated. It's still a bit rough around the edges, but good enough for now:
I used to run a music label and here's some numbers from 2012 to 2016:
Within my county, pay for 1h of live music dropped from ~$30/h to ~$6/h.
Average pay per streamed song dropped $0.03 cents to $0.007
Cost to belong to proper songwriting and such unions went up from $160/yr to $780/yr
---
Note that over this period, online piracy plummeted and subscriptions to streaming services rose dramatically.
Don't assume not pirating has improved things for musicians.

Terrorism, man, that cracked me up.
Maybe itās just me, but getting alienated from an entity you created as soon as itās turned into a product, gains mainstream credibility, etc. is part of #hacker life.
Itās happened to almost everything Iāve been a part of, and when it happens, itās time for me to move on and hack the next thing...
tomorrow is my birthday and this has been, honestly, a difficult month
if you would draw me a picture (even just a lil scribble) as a present it would make me v happy
Well this is an interesting little language...
