Anyone have any good resources for coding #DOS #batch files? or a good menuing program for DOS?
I don't need to do anything fancy, I'd just like to script up a basic, keyboard driven menu that will run in DOS.
I used to do this sorta thing all the time, but it's been at least 10 years, if not longer, since I made a DOS environment for other people to use.
Some kind of pseudo-graphical TUI that can be navigated with a keyboard would be perfect.
Any thoughtS?

@chr that’s a bummer, I wonder what the problem is?
I had an “original” (plastic) Pebble for years and didn’t have a problem. I only switched because I preferred the round face.

@chr damn, I haven’t heard of that problem before.
I have a Pebble round which is working great now that I’ve upgraded it to the “Rebble” firmware/app. I might like to pick up a Steel for variety.

@vertigo this is helpful. As I read it I see that it’s similar to how you break a program (or a song/story/system) down into reasonable bites. Something whose complexity doesn’t exceed that which your head can manage at once.
For me it’s dumb things like needing a table for a studio space, but I need to cut some legs for the table, so I need to dig-out the saws & woodworking tools, etc.

Having a hard time getting started on several things because they all have dependencies and prerequisites that are overwhelming.
This is a new problem for me. Typically I haven’t been inhibited by this sort of thing. Not sure what changed...?

Excited about this year.
Going to make an effort to get out and do more in the physical world, interact with people in person, etc.
Going to try and do more making (and sharing) things and less talking about things.
Not sure why, but I’ve felt like 2019 was going to be a good year for awhile...

Considering developing an sbc-oriented HPC linux distro.
Something to make building & operating ARM/etc. based clusters that seem to be becoming more common. I need this for #rainpsc anyway, and it's in-line with my mission of making HPC more accessible.
The idea is to make setup & config easier & standardized (akin to what ROCKS does for Intel clusters), deals with some of the SBC-specific oddities and provides some built-in frameworks, languages & tools for HPC & cluster computing (as well as examples & benchmarking tools).
sound useful?

A little #python hacking and the posts in my #evernote archive are online again for the first time in years (some going all the way back to y2k!).

@silverspookgames I have a friend who is building one. They have a fly-in every July not far from here.
They are remarkably simple and remind you that airplanes can be much simpler than automobiles :)

As someone whose been programming long before syntax highlighting, I can say it does help write better code.
My first experience with syntax highlighting was Borland Turbo C++ and it radically improved my ability to learn the language (compared to learning C in a monochrome editor) and increased the chances of getting clean compiles on the first try.
