    I imagine there'd be a transcoding step before federation, else you could wreak all kinds of havoc with shitty decoders and demuxers. So it would really be up to the admins. Or maybe my view is colored by the horror that is libavformat..!

    I'd put more bits into audio, the eye is much more forgiving. WebM has captions, search for WebVTT

    Using -crf instead of a target bitrate may also be appropriate, that gives you "constant quality" in a single pass

    Anyone else on here following what Robert Murray-Smith and his company is doing with carbon batteries? They're looking to replace both lead-acid and lithium-ion cells with variants of a base carbon material which they can print onto paper. Cheap and environmentally friendly.

    He's been pretty open with the principles at work, including some neat processes one can do at home (like hydrothermal carbonization). So actively encouraging more people to experiment with these things, and giving out enough information that one might go off and fiddle oneself. Neatest idea so far may be turning old tires into storage devices somewhere between supercapacitors and lead-acids

    Learned about std::quoted in C++14 today. Pretty neat way of automagically reading quoted strings in C++. Unescapes backslashed quotes too

    Whipped up a sleeve dipole to get the RF away from my APRS rig. Ugly but works 📻

    Off-center fed, 47 cm of shielding peeled down, 57 cm of center conductor sticking up. Ferrite in the middle of the coax to keep RF from coming back down the shield
