@mayel I guess this is where I'd say, 'find a small thing that's being poorly served by the go-fast types, take the time to rearchitect it properly to suit people's needs, and continually refine it until your alternative becomes best in class for that small niche'?
Don't keep chasing other markets. Open Source, or Co-Op models where the users have a say in direction and an interest in supporting it ongoing.

Clarification for step 6, you may need to include the full path like `/usr/local/bin/boost` rather than just `boost` in the cronjob.

Testing a temporary workaround to there being no nomadic identity on the fediverse: auto-boosting all the toots from my main/current account to my old ones.

Using this script: https://gitlab.com/chaica/boost

1. Make sure you have python3 and pip3
2. Install with `pip3 install boost`
3. Run `register_boost_app` to generate authentication keys for your old account.
4. Create the `boost.ini` config file based on the example, putting your main/current account as `users_to_boost`, and commenting out `only_if_hashtags`, `match` and `favorite`
5. Test by running `boost -c boost.ini`
6. Create a cronjob that runs every X minutes with `cd /path/to/config/folder && boost -c boost.ini`

I've recently completed the study 'No profit, no hierarchy: A comparative study of the ‘lower left’', which is a comparative study of 66 ‘lower left’ organisations (groups that are autonomous from the state, use horizontal organisation for planning and decision making, not for profit, and anti-capitalist). The study was conducted between March and September 2018. Customer service / tech support can indeed be very costly, not only in time/money, but emotionally!

In my experience while there's some people I am very happy to freely gift my assistance to, most other cases I find very draining to deal with (no matter if they're paying or not)... Maybe I'm just not well suited for this kind of work, but I get the impression that society has taught most of us to be entitled and demanding (and often rude) towards service providers, which makes sense as a reaction to capitalist/exploitative companies (though shouldn't excuse mistreating their workers) but in the case of technology seems to encourage the infantilisation of "users", and in the case of indie or co-op services can be very discouraging. </rant>
