It would be nice to have a very simple AP implementation aimed at community groups that mostly need to post event details. Varying privacy levels would help too.

I'm gonna have to get back on Facebook just to know about local activist stuff and it's like oh my god guys you don't even have any other web presence do you not see the drawbacks of people having to RSVP with real names to your immigration protest that will be closely watched by the cops who we know pass shit along to border services okay fine whatever your fucking funeral

Anyone have a view on #GitBook vs #MediaWiki as a public way of developing a collection of informative documents, and presenting a view of a system (organisation, campaign, movement). Open to continuous collective (re)writing.
Look&feel of GitBook seems so much cleaner, MediaWiki typography IMHO is not pleasing.

But what's under the hood? What are they like to manage & maintain? How easy is it to put a different skin on MediaWiki?
GitBook costs, but offers a not-for-profit free option.

#translation platform question:

What good F/OSS web platforms are out there for coordinating volunteer translation of short texts (on the scale of brief conversations or even individual utterances)?

Per my recent toots, there’s an urgent need for translation of Mesoamerican Indigenous languages. Some of that translation will be remote. I’m betting it’d reduce everyone’s stress and labor to have some lightweight infrastructure in place to facilitate that work. But what?

This https://docs.opencoopecosystem.net/ is a follow-on project that is currently looking at #activitypub for connections between people, organizations, and flocks of apps.

Hi USA, here is my college. (Ciencias - UNAM) It has a good worldwide ranking and it has a $0.25 MXN/year tuition and a $0.25 MXN/year admin fee to study there. ($0.025 USD/year total) I think foreigners pay a little more (like 50 USD/year) but the cost of living is also very low. Classes are only in Spanish though.

Just putting it out there as an option as student loans/debt get worse and Trump gets tired of too much winning™ with the trade war vs the whole world.

After reading and discussing chapter 28 of Ours Yo Hack And To Own, I feel like though we're onto something big here at social.coop, we still need to figure out a key aspect of platform cooperation: how to orgnize the divion of labour.

Some jobs are self-evident (eg. maintaining the software and the machines), others a bit less so (eg. facilitation, onboarding, editorial etc.).

Bauwens suggests open coops use open-value accounting, like #Sensorica, maybe we should look into it?
