Exactly. I think there's probably careers out there for the people who can provide answers for the 'stuff you can't google'.

It has occurred to me that to become an expert on something, all you really have to do is live with it.
People at work sometimes ask me how I have so many random tips on tiny edge cases of this or that. It's because I use this stuff every day. I don't go home to Windows or Mac. I live and work on Linux, using open source tools. You get really familiar with these things after 365*N days of use.

Capitalism makes sure all deed are done with maximum misery. Sell as high as possible. Buy as low as possible. Haggle until you tire. Work until you can no more. Those are the affordances of the system. To enjoy yourself and the time youโre given on this earth needs resistance. You need to resist. You need to resist the temptation to exploit yourself and your fellow humans. Resist and enjoy what little time you have left.

@gwmngilfen I got an inkbook classic 2
https://en.store.inkbook.eu/ereaders/inkbook-classicIt runs Android, but no google rego is required. Admittedly, I don't sync it with Calibre; I just manually sync stuff with rsync, but I think its flexibility is a big plus.
Formerly had a Kobo n950. It was OK, but had to hack around its registration policy, it took ages to index my books, and then it died.

@alvarezp That's what I was doing. The publisher I'm writing for has a complex style set. There are lots of code samples, headings, special cases. Had to go through all 22 pages and define everything individually.
I may try hand-rolling some export rules for Docbook so my initial export is closer to where I need to end up.
I'm using Libre Office. I'm open to trying an alternative like Abiword or Open Office, but $tool must 0) be Free and open source and 1) import styles from MS Blah.

@hhardy01 @Wolf480pl I think it's not hard at all, but I have packaged enough applications for SlackBuilds to know that it doesn't always work. Also, sometimes it's a
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
make installSometimes it's not even compiling. Sometimes it's just a matter of unarchiving and hand-rolling a .desktop launcher.
And so on. I would love it if it were simple, I'm just not convinced that it is.
I can imagine telling the teachers I support to "just compile Gimp 2.10".

@Wolf480pl The thing this article doesn't address is what a user is meant to do when $application hasn't been packaged for their distro or for Linux. Not all users know how to compile and package.
I think upstream deserves a reasonable packaging method for Linux. I'm happy to encourage my users to opt for package manager FIRST and AppImage second, but I'm not OK with "outside" developers not knowing how to deliver to Linux because we have no universal format to provide.

@satchmoz I'm a fan of LรVE. You can do some amazing things with it in very very few lines of code. Godot seems cool, but it's a bit more complex, and their Godot-specific scripting language is a drawback.

I get that some people are visual people and others, I guess, are not, but man I just don't understand how word processors appeal to anyone. It just took me two hours to format 22 pages to spec.
For my personal work in Docbook, time expended on formatting was 8 hours a year ago, and not a minute ever since.

@cobra2 @pokey @thaj OK, now I've uploaded a fix for 12x20. It's a bit of a hack but at least the level is better. Also you three got a thanks in my "sorry for the audio issues" intro.

@cobra2 @thaj @pokey Unfortunately I no longer have the source files for 12x20. But I've just corrected and re-uploaded 12x24 (which was the one with audio only in the left ear for NO good reason).
Thanks for the QA, I appreciate it immensely.
