The reality is these people mostly go after innocent folks

That and people in marginalised groups like trans people are often in the harassment squad and who wants to deplatform a trans person, even if they're the world's biggest asshole?

When I see things like people being pressured into captioning images (I'm not entirely sure how to caption half my images, many don't make sense with a caption) or pressured into CW's over the silliest things, it just makes me realise a few things

1) how incredibly pushy people can be, even if they have good intentions
2) how ineffective Masto's tools are for dealing with content we don't want to see
3) how people want to impose their ideas of how the world should work onto others

I think the idea that a "fediverse behavioral norm" is a bit absurd

With an open world system comes with the freedom to behave how you want

Pressure can only go so far to change behaviour

The solution, ultimately, is to choose for yourself (or your instance) what you don't want to see

@Elizafox I’d say it’s partially because of how hard the lot of us have fought. It’s not easy being trans, and never will be, but it’s easi*er* now (from a healthcare perspective) than it ever has been.

At least, in most places. Everyone’s mileage may vary.
