if you get concerned when people write about insecurity of a software that you have been trusting on:

1. there is no secure sytem.
2. secure enough for threats that are harming us is good
3. you can't have a system secure enough against threats that are harming us
4. sry for not bringining more confident
5. we must learn to try to adopt our security culture based on our needs.
6. ppl have different needs.
7. understand the threat model and adopt your behaviour to your needs

@dgold you're missing a few things from that summary:
* Signal uses a rootkit (Google Play Services) in its "secure" app
* the *reasons* Moxie won't let F-Droid distribute Signal, which don't stack up, suggesting there's a reason he's not saying
* animated GIF search to a third-party server in a "secure" app. Seriously #WTF?
* the security flaws in the official APK download (and the fact it tries to scare users into using the rootkitted Play Store version) etc

if by telegram, only the client is called telegram then telegram is opensource.

yet the remaining infrastructure to make the telegram client functional (or am I missing something?) is in the hands of those offering the client. the difference is that they hide the code here.

from what I know, client and server side is called telegram.
if yes, telegram is not opensource.
if no, telegram is opensource.

take firefox for example.
there's a server side that lets you sync your firefox among many devices.
you can let mozilla take care of the server side, or host it by yourself.

no. because if a browser is opensource, the browser is opensource.

telegram is not opensource. and that's why it's not opensource.

telegram is not a p2p messenger. because of this, the software that runs on your mobile is just a part of the telegram software. the other part of the software is on the server side.
this part is proprietary software.
you do not know how it works, you can not read the code, you can not change it.
