tiaf.
a not-even-currency blockchain.
at some point I will stand up a tiaf endpoint for people to play with and replicate from, but the data system isn't finished (needs spill-to-disk).

So if someone comes to me - or you - and says, I need to share data with other, external, entities, in a tamper-resistant system where both can write - you do not need a blockchain qua BTC or ETH. You don't even need smart contracts. You don't need miners.
You need a way to authenticate that so and so is a member of the organization, and they are authorized to click the "share the data" button. Or, in other words: LDAP, G Suite, Okta, blah, blah, blah.
What I created solves the data part.

I implemented this system, using the perspective of someone that would do this for work, using conventional enterprise/identity tools; using the perspective that insults to the database would be resolved through the courts of law.
that made everything much simpler and ridiculously faster.
I can basically commit data at speed of cpu. Because I don't "mine", I simply command, a block is instant in creation.

thought #1. a trustless/distributed world without contractual enforcement is extremely expensive. That's why "mining" occurs. bitcoin mining is actually how data transactions are committed as well.... in a trustless world.
thought #2. a resilient public sharable database is actually a very good thing.
thought #3. identity is not solved by a private key.

in news that might be of interest to the mastodon world, I decided to implement a coinless, "gasless", blockchain.
"crypto without the currency".
or, if you're being technical: an immutable database with cryptographic hashing of prior blocks, similar to a merkle list.
I developed a lot of thoughts around crypto/nfts etc while doing this too.

@Imani yea I hear you... I have family and the finances and logistics simply make it impossible.
if i was single I'd have migrated elsewhere for covid so I could walk in a yard and breathe free and safe.

I miss sunny days. We've been in Western WA since 2013.
With the covid and the rain and the damp, I am starting to get very antsy. Dreams of the Southwest, where my wife lived for a while before we married.

You guys know I like to bash Go, but... FUCK!
"The Go security team has determined that the root causes of the vulnerabilities cannot be reliably addressed."
Ok, your language design has some serious flaw that can't be fixed, so they are basically saying "Yup, a core library is going to be vulnerable for a long time".
Also, this is going since August 2020, according to the related post. Project Zero works way fast (30 days) to disclose issues on every other project, but on a project from their own company, 4 months.
Google surely cares about the well-being of the internet, sure.

@shapr You can write it in as an issue for the maintainer. We really appreciate that sort of thing.

@lnxw48a1 I believe you're right for the consumer fitbit/garmin devices.
I would quite like a decent consumer grade fitness watch that could just burp over CSVs on demand.
I have the Fitbit Versa 2 - smartwatches really aren't that awesome IMO. it's mostly a heart monitor and sleep tracker for me.
