@GreenandBlack I need to find many, many excuses to use that clip. I've already got one...excuse me a moment while I fire up the toot machine...

Wow. Your friend is the slowest hiker in the group so you abandon her in the woods, possibly with an injury (it's unclear if she was hurt before or after being left behind)? What a bunch of assholes.

Also this reinforces the need to improve transit service in my city so that it's easier to get by without a car. It's doable in a few neighbourhoods, and we're lucky enough to live in one of them, so we actually don't drive a whole lot, but in many parts of the city it's really hard to get around if you don't have a car. If you have transit access at all, in takes hours instead of minutes to get anywhere you need to go.

We had money in the bank, so we were not stressed too much about having to buy a new car, especially knowing that a cheque will be coming soon.

But what if we'd been counting on that payout in order to be able to purchase a replacement? I still don't have a cheque in hand, so I'd either be stuck without a vehicle or paying for a rental out of pocket.

Basically, if you're poor and your car gets stolen, you're fucked even if you have insurance.

Insurance was paying for a rental for us, with a max of $1,500. This would have paid for about a month with the rental, if we'd needed it.

Last week, because they have officially made us an offer for payout and we accepted, they said, "OK, the rental is cut off in 3 more business days; if you keep it after that, you'll have to pay for it yourself."

It was annoying, but not a big deal since we were close to buying a replacement by then.

Well, we picked up our new car last night (after some minor issues with the dealership) and I returned the rental this morning since today's the last day our insurance would cover it. The stolen car saga is, hopefully, done.

But I was thinking about the insurance situation this morning and how it would be really bad if we didn't have money in the bank to pay for the car while we await our payout... (thread con't unlisted)

Probably, the merely socialist books would be fine. But the ones with "communist" in the title might raise eyebrows and I'd rather not have to deal with that.

Just ordered a bunch of books from Verso, since it's the last day of their "student book sale." 50% off a whole bunch of titles, plus free ebooks included. I was going to have them sent to work (our shipper/receiver encourages us to have packages sent here, to avoid the risk of people stealing them from our porches if they get delivered when we're at work), but then I thought that maybe having communist literature sent to work was a bad idea, even knowing they *probably* wouldn't open the box.

@opendork Probably. I read a thing that said they didn't give her a girlfriend because they were afraid some countries would ban the movie. If that's true, why would anyone believe they'll make her openly gay in any future sequels?

@DialMforMara I'm an introvert, but more social and the only reason I got the job was because the guy who would be my direct supervisor went ahead and hired me while the owner was on vacation and couldn't have his normal input. (The owner was a very strange man overall and it was a horrible job, but it was better than nothing at the time!)

@DialMforMara Oh, for sure. It's not the same, but it reminds me of a job where I had to take a personality test pre-interview. The owner liked to hire people who scored extremely high on the anti-social introvert end of the scale, because he figured employees who were neither interested in or able to effectively socialize would be more productive.

@DialMforMara It's to prove that you're "not a numbers person" and therefore will be a good writer. You have to fail and fail hard.

(Seriously, though, that doesn't seem quite absurd.)
