@sculpin I haven't gone for bloodwork yet, partly because I haven't totally ruled out depression. I've had a, uh, let's just say it's been a rough summer. I might not be handling it as well as I thought, but I've been depressed before and didn't feel like this.
I should go to the doctor, though. It's starting to get bad.

"Corey Mintz eats the entire Tim Hortons menu"
I think Maclean's writers should unionize so none of them ever have to suffer this indignity again.

I'm starting to worry that I've got some kind of chronic fatigue thing going on. I'm *always* tired lately.

@lunalapin The ciabatta trend must end. Ciabatta is OK some of the time, but it's too much bread for most types of sandwiches. Wraps are, indeed, the better choice.

@msh The book actually acknowledges that, citing an Oscar Wilde quote that (to paraphrase), basically says that we'll never be satisfied with utopia. If we achieve it, a new and better utopia will appear on the horizon and we'll have to sail toward it. I think that's OK. Utopia is an aspiration to keep us moving forward. But, yes, there's definitely a sense that the title is a bit of an oxymoron.

D&D lets you live out all kinds of fantasies, such as:
-Having everyone call you by your preferred name and gender
-Having a big group of friends who do everything together
-Making a reasonable wage as a freelancer
-Being able to murder the terrible leadership of your country
-Getting 8 hours of sleep -

@erinbee @interneteh They're more like really curly Ps, since they're sort of like backwards 9s. It's...a stretch (though I have occasionally heard that "actually, the *real* devil's number is 999, not 666...I forget what the supposed explanation for that is).

@interneteh Dear whoever invented this conspiracy theory: They're not sixes if they're upside down (I can see them, but only because I've been primed to look for them).

@interneteh It probably helped that my family was Christian in name only, having almost never attended church or observed any religious rituals other than occasionally saying grace before dinner.

@interneteh I don't think the whole satanic panic thing had as much sway here in Canada. I remember bits and pieces, like that silly Tom Hanks movie where he has a psychotic break and thinks he really is his D&D character, with real spells and everything.
I don't remember the P&G thing, but I love the fact that it includes a non-existent episode of the Donahue, that people swear to have seen.

@adasauce I thought this was going to be a hellworld thing similar to people learning to homebrew insulin because they can't afford it or something. But this is actually kind of awesome (but still slightly fucked that it's not available to anyone with type 1 diabetes; you shouldn't need to be a hacker with access to a particular piece of discontinued hardware to improve your life this way).

@interneteh "my teachers were telling us that the recycling symbol looks like a 666"
Is that a real thing that actually happened to you? I hope that's hyperbole, but I feel like it probably isn't and it's fucking with my mind right now.

@Sapphicgiraffic @gzt @jackdaw_ruiz @Pixley The original take of "books are terrible" is obviously hyperbole. This is the core of it, I think. Even if someone has "good" books on their shelf it doesn't actually mean they understood (or even read) them. It could be entirely about signifying that they are the type of person who owns the "right" books and are therefore "smart."
Hell, it could be specifically intended to help them get laid by the "I won't fuck anyone who doesn't own books" crowd.
