@knownrobes This reminded me of the theory that the Jetsons and the Flintstones actually occur at the same time, with the Flintstones and their talking dinosaurs living on the surface of a devastated Earth, while the Jetsons and their ilk being a new society formed by those who were wealthy enough to escape to the sky cities.
what will the 'cultural logic' be of our inevitable off-world megacities? 2000km up, we can finally treat earth as the all you can eat buffet we want to believe it is. it will be exsanguinated. rinsed.
The fan theory that the Jetsons and the Flintstones are actually contemporaneous to one another -- the Jetsons' sky cities being the land of the wealthy (or formerly wealthy, perhaps, since capitalist wage relations still exist, even in a world with literal robot servants) and the Flintstones being the descendants of the poor people who couldn't escape to the skies when the world fell apart -- is starting to feel less like an amusing diversion and more like a prediction of the future.
@radicalrobit@adasauce@FuchsiaShock While we're personally very liberal, our values don't apply to our business and, in fact, aren't even real values because we abandon them the moment they become inconvenient for us.
Tomorrow, we're going to a sunflower maze a couple hours south of the city. Wife decided to look for camping nearby, so now we're also taking an impromptu camping trip, just for tomorrow night. This is one thing I really like about having a trailer: it makes it a lot easier to make a spontaneous trip like this, since we basically just need to pack food and clothes -- everything else is already in the trailer.
Tim Horton's Pumpkin Spice Latte is less spicy that I'd like, but it actually seems less sweet than the Starbucks one, which is nice. It's also about half the price.
I normally wouldn't care about or even read a thinkpiece about Friends, but this one about Chandler's job is pretty good.
"Chandler Bing entered his profession in that most relatable of ways: He got a job because he had to, and he failed to get a better one, and that failure extended over a period of years, and soon enough, through inertia’s bland inevitabilities, Chandler’s job became his career."
@thegibson Does reading your Mastodon feed strain your neck? That wall-mounted monitor looks...awkward (though also convenient if you wanted to have videos playing while doing other work).
@policeinchains "I prefer to think that Engels created Stirner to have a laugh at Marx's reaction, but he became so pissed off he wrote a fucking Bible debunking everything about him. Engels was "Come on Karl, your debunking is longer than his own work, stop wasting time", but Marx kept writing his diatribe, sweat feverishly pouring from his brow as he spent entire nights in a stuffy room full of candles. "What have I done?" thought Engels.""
@policeinchains Also, when I looked it up to double check that I didn't invent this whole conspiracy in a fever dream, I found this amusing comment on a leftypol thread (uh, see next toot since it's too long to fit in this one)...
@policeinchains This is an actual conspiracy theory on the left (mostly as a joke, I think), since the only picture of Stirner that exists is that Engel's sketch and the fact that his grave says Max Stirner instead of his real name.
Watching the #cdnpoli leaders' debate and in between they're talking to some First Nations leaders. One dude just used the best expression, that I've never heard before: "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken droppings, no matter how you stir it." 😂
I'm trying to blog more regularly, again. Feel free to add me to your RSS reader, if you still use one and want to follow the rambling thoughts that I share outside of this space!
@mpjgregoire@FssOfDeath On the other hand, Jason Kenney is possibly the most influential conservative in the country right now and he's DEFINITELY an ideologue, albeit of a very different sort than the PC party of old.
So, no, I don't think triggering the libs as as much a force here as in the US, but there is definitely a loud (though possibly small) part of the base that fits the mould.
@mpjgregoire@FssOfDeath I suppose Bernier has taken that role, so it's less of an issue in mainstream conservatism at the federal level. Arguably, Doug Ford fits the mould and he's premier of the most populace province.
Scheer has distanced himself from Rebel Media, but there was a connection there (still is, kind of, via Hamish Marshall).
