I had projects on gitorious. I think I just let them die. Or maybe I had forked them off of GitHub.
Yeah, I didn't want to argue that point. -

Wow I didn't know you can natively sync a personal install of #GitLab to #GitHub. Basing your platform on open standards really helps compatibility eh?

Thinking about #Microsoft buying #Github makes sense. They bought Linkedin. They want to own all the access points of the tech job market. https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/03/microsoft-github-acquisition-talks/

If Microsoft truly loves open source, they'd open source #github upon acquisition.

Microsoft won’t “kill” GutHub. It’s not an email service, or blog platform, or web browser, or Bob
This is a non-trivial cornerstone of web and other software development (and that should have been the problem in the first place). A large publicly traded company with a history of scrutiny isn’t going to be as reckless with it as people think. Especially not as much a private company could
Also, folks are behaving as if #GitHub had flawless reputation before the acquisition

@GeekDaddy Yeah, that's sad. Unfortunately the FOSS, git based code hosting platforms seem to be dragging their feet on federation.
Personally I can't wait for #Gitea or #Gogs or #Gitlab or similar to federate via #ActivityPub. Personally I feel that will be a defining moment for the #FOSS community in taking back out sovereignty from #GitHub / #Microsoft.

no, it doesn't prove that. GitHub is twice the size of Gitlab if you look at employees. Loomio is two orders of magnitude smaller than GitHub. eye-balling the picture, Wire is about an order of magnitude smaller than Gitlab.
I am not saying your theory is wrong, but there are so many other reasons GitHub could have ran out of money. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink -
