@gabriele Thanks
@clerical I use it. But they want your phone number and theyāve let themselves be used to whitewash both Google and Facebook on privacy so I prefer Wire. Theyāre the best options at the moment. But also keep your eye on Jami.
@DC7IA @switchingsocial Can you give me a few links to those comments. Iād like to see what the actual arguments are.
Israeli espionage firm hacks WhatsApp. Can install spyware with missed call.
My advice: dump WhatsApp today and start using Wire (https://wire.com/en/products/personal-secure-messenger/). Tell your friends and family to do the same. (Itās a simple, free download on all app stores. Easy to use, doesnāt require your phone number, and their business model is based on charging for commercial use and for pro accounts.)
You can find more alternatives on @switchingsocial (https://switching.social/ethical-alternatives-to-whatsapp-and-skype/)
@mastohost Will do, thanks, Hugo :)
@da (And thank you again.)
@da Hey Daniel, sorry I missed this when you originally sent it. CCing in @laura as sheās more involved in the site
@da Hmm, Iāll have a look, thanks for the heads up. I noticed an issue the other day but wasnāt sure if it was my connectivity.

Introducing Indie Web Server 8.0.0: install the server and start serving a secure static personal web site in literally seconds
Video demo + short post: https://ar.al/2019/04/16/set-up-a-live-static-personal-web-site-in-seconds-with-indie-web-server-8.0.0/
I hope it makes your lives easier. This is one of the earlier pieces of the puzzle in the Hypha project.
(It took two weeks and a couple of false starts but Version 8.0.0 introduces native binaries for Linux and macOS. Production use via startup daemons is supported only on Linux platforms with systemd.)
@sheogorath Mozillaās top brass isnāt innocent in this either. They knew exactly what they are doing and the role they play by accepting hundreds of millions of dollars from Google and other surveillance capitalists every year.
@chriswiegman We shouldnāt have to do that to demo Letās Encrypt. Hereās hoping they will remove or raise the limit for my demo domain.
Sadly, might have to wait a week to record my video demonstration of Indie Web Server as Iāve hit the Duplicate Certificate limit on my-demo.site, which I use for my demonstrations. Just filled out a form asking for the limit to be raised or lifted for that domain, so š¤
@hyde_stevenson Glad Iām not the only one to think so.
@ninja @thegibson Why would I format and install Linux over Linux? Or should I try to install Linux on the BIOS? ;P
Upgrading the studio with a black backdrop hacked by reversing a portable cinema screen. Canāt wait to record the demo for Indie Web Server 8.0.0 :)
Just popped up on my XPS 13 updates:
āThis update integrates the BIOSConnect feature into Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery. This feature connects the system to the Dell image server to download and recover the operating system.ā
Umm⦠how about no, Dell, do not connect my BIOS to the Internet thank you very much.
Wtf is wrong with these people? *smh*
I've written about this before: http://ajroach42.com/shada-douglas-adams-unfinished-doctor-who-arc-reborn-in-countless-works-of-fan-fiction/
I may update that post to note that it's been officially released now.
For those who are unfamiliar, this is Douglas Adams famously unfinished doctor who episode.
Seeing as it was unlikely to ever be released, Adams recycled the plot in to his novel Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency, replacing the doctor with the titular gently (and effectively making Dirk gently doctor who fan fic)
Then it was rereleased as a radio episode and a flash animation, and a fan novel, and a recut fanedit, and a VHS with linking narration, and an official novel, and now this.
