@xahlee Mixed, I think. Showing off your wealth would usually be frowned upon by most people... and yet there are specific street cultures, yakuza, gaaru, etc., where it's a thing (especially related to clothing). And corporations, not people, sometimes do things to show off wealth - e.g. engaging in bidding wars for expensive fish at New Year.
Ducim> You look like a mighty warrior indeed. Mosus> I'm ten! Ducim> Given that at the age of ten you appear to be the only survivor in a fortress full of corpses of dwarfs, goblins, and forgotten beasts, I stand by my initial assessment. https://mstdn.io/media/Ye8Z1OhMK77HhC3RKtU
Now streaming: Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode. Visit to the bridge fortress of Merchantwinds to cross the strait and maybe buy some equipment. https://video.northcoastsynthesis.com/
@fap@lain Also important to know: you can spray it on the top of a toilet tank to dissuade people from snorting lines of cocaine off the tank. Supposedly the oil from the spray makes the powder sticky enough not to be easily snortable. I haven't witnessed this myself but heard from a usually reliable source about a bar where people snorting coke off the toilet tanks was a big enough issue that the management did this.
@fap@lain The use case here is not really frying; it's anti-stick for baked goods. Butter makes sense to me because there's likely butter in the batter already, but it's quite possible margarine or similar would really be better. And the spray, obviously, claims to be a carefully formulated product *ideal* for its purpose.
As for the convenience aspect, I don't know, it's not a product I use. I'm describing, not recommending.
@lain It's cooking oil in a spray can. You spray it on things like baking pans so that food cooked in them won't stick when you remove it. The more traditional way is to manually rub the pan with butter or similar before putting in the food to be cooked, but people find the spray more convenient.
okay, I'm live again at https://video.northcoastsynthesis.com/ Tweaks to audio/video sync, ready to make another atempt at regaining the loyalty of my travelling companions.
Okay, trying again with the live stream, and probably audio that works this time.. https://video.northcoastsynthesis.com/ . Bug reports would be welcome.
Well, that didn't go quite as planned. Two hours of streaming with a nonfunctional microphone and the only person who bothered to tell me was my mother, who doesn't have a lot of experience in filing useful bug reports. Several other people did tune in, though, so I hope they had fun watching the silent adventures of Ducim the Dwarf.
folks I'll be on https://video.northcoastsynthesis.com/ starting in a couple minutes and until I get bored of it, eating curry rice and playing Dwarf Fortress adventure mode. Stop by if you wanna help me shake down my server.
