so yeah I think I - finally - have the streaming server working, after a couple of days of very intense yak shaving. not gonna attempt a real broadcast tonight, but you can see the placeholder content at https://video.northcoastsynthesis.com/ , if your browser is compatible. (and if not, I still need to shave some more yaks, I guess.)
Okay, so after some hours of messing around, it appears that the piece of software I really need is something called "ffserver". Which was announced to be EOL in mid-2016, and they finally removed from the relevant Git respository on January 6, 2018. Last version before they did that, did not work, and it appears impractical to figure out exactly how far to downgrade ffserver and its many dependencies to get an installation that will really work.
@ninjawedding@devurandom Well, if it's a *perfect* imitation then it'll be in a copyright grey area. So the question is how close you really want it to be.
@wrenpile I haven't, but given the other blockhappy instances that are tolerated, and the other racist instances that may not be exactly tolerated but that do exist... is there anything new or remarkable on counter.social in particular? Sound to me like there are being legal threats made against it and if so, *that's* new.
I think I will laugh soon. #Gargron asks counter.social to comply with the fediverse or to be revoked from Mastodon by Mastodon trademark or AGPL licence enforcement. If he does this, I immediately ask for revocation too for *ANY* instance which block or silence by admin decision any other instance. Bye witches.town, kitty.town, mastodon.social, unixcorn.org, โฆ ๐
@angristan in 1720 during the South Sea Bubble, someone launched "a company for carrying out an undertaking of great advantage, but nobody to know what it is." Got a lot of subscribers before they shut it down.
@Balor Interesting. I wonder if there's a way the browser could detect such cases and not bother with the buttons when it doesn't make sense to have them.
