@kamonabetengoku Pocky is popular enough here in Canada that we buy get it in ordinary grocery stores - not only Japanese specialty shops. However, November 11 in Canada is observed as "Remembrance Day," a solemn occasion in honour of war dead.

yesterday I caught myself asking "Huh? Why is the grocery store playing anime music?" It wasn't, but it was a pop song I know only through the Nyanners cover and she frequently does anime music, so it had been filed in that part of my brane.

@clacke @dt @japananon @sim Well, that's one view, and it wouldn't even surprise me if the Danes actually decided to try it. I don't think everyone would see it as appropriately within what the state ought to do, though. The idea that it's the state's responsibility to make sure citizens have what they need is not a universally agreed principle.

@clacke @dt @japananon @sim Having lived in Denmark for a couple years, this doesn't really surprise me. However, it sounds like it was only for the disabled.

@sim @japananon @dt @clacke There was a story circulating a couple years ago about some Scandinavian country giving single people tax credits to hire prostitutes, but it was never clear to me whether that was a real practice, a serious proposal, or simply fake.
