@clacke@dt@japananon@sim I don't know that that's the best possible world, just as I don't know that present-day or hypothetical food stamp systems are the best possible world, but I think it's an interesting idea worth thinking about.
@sim@japananon@dt@clacke Indeed, very few basic human rights are associated with obligations on specific other persons. I'm not sure I can think of any.
@maffsie With only a few kilobytes of RAM, you're looking at something more like a VIC-20, or a video game console of that same era, than like a PC. I'm not going to say useless, but it'll be limited.
Pulling my ads from the brony board. They were getting good click-through (from the ad to my site) but then 92% bounce rate (leaving my site without doing anything). Despite initial contrary results which I attribute to sampling effects, it appears Google ads really are more effective, at least in the sense of statistical significance. Still not sure Google is worth the money, though.
nearly all my postings these days have at least one wrong word. maybe I should pretend I'm doing it on purpose as part of the Islamic "only God can create perfection, everything human-made ought to contain one mistake" thing.
@lain Present-day culture has a big problem with the idea of anyone ever *really* being owed, or *really* deserving or having earned, anything. Witness the redefinition of "entitlement," which now refers to a concept pretty much exactly the opposite of what it used to mean. This is a topic I've long wanted to write about in detail, but it's hard to start and hard to know how to put it so that it'll be taken seriously.
@xahlee If your wire isn't coiled, it takes a lot of current to generate even a small magnetic field. Without doing a careful calculation, I think it's something like an amp that would be needed at 1cm distance, and the actual currents inside a phone are more typically in microamps.
@zaitcev@xahlee Yes, it's very possible that what happens is the SJWs colonize when they smell blood and the system's native culture is no longer strong enough to resist. But the direction of causation is much harder to prove than the fact of correlation.
@xahlee Livejournal ten years ago; Twitter two; and Disqus and whichever others you're thinking of... why is it that they go SJW just when they're seriously *losing* participants and seemingly can least afford to ban the ones who remain?
Me: Okay, today I have to have do all the book entries for my last month's worth of receipts, take out the recyclables, clean the apartment... My brain: Hey, let's write an expert system!
