"Apple rushed into sharing face maps with app developers... Apps are supposed to make clear why they’re accessing your face and seek “conspicuous consent”... But... you just get a pop-up that asks for “access the camera”. It doesn’t say, “Hey I'm now going to map your every twitch.” [And] once you give it permission, an active app keeps on having access to your face until you delete it or dig into advanced settings."
@celesteh right, OK. I'd love to see an official statement from Creative Commons that explains that particular case. Do you think it is the same for a mix that you upload to Mixcloud? I am also wondering about remixes: in the electronic music sphere, it is pretty acceptable to remix copyrighted music and upload to whatever platform. Is this less acceptable for a CC-ND then?
@celesteh Asking for permission to use during a live paid mix is very impractical. One could ask beforehand if they plan it ahead of time, but they might not get a response in time, and often a DJ mix changes as it is performed to fit the crowd / the mood. Or do you mean that a live paid-for mix also can include anything?
Please read this open letter & consider signing it today! I'd love to see this shared and signed so we can all make an impact together. Organizers should see that this isn't some fringe issue, but at the heart of how we can be accountable and inclusive as a community. And I want to believe Mastodon is the place to start forming a critical mass...
hey all, i'm in berlin fostering three puppies, and i've had a death in the family yesterday and need to leave - and cant take them with me.
is there *anyone* who could take one for a week or so? i can provide a kennel for the night, food, local contact for emergency. please, please ask around... i'd be eternally grateful, and so would one of the baby girls!
please share this, and ping me here or on facebook.com/glorybeasts
@Nomys_Tempar thanks! I will have to expand a bit and look into other options than CC too, I tend to forget that they even exist as most popular platforms do not support them at all. Thanks for reminding me! :)
@bobjonkman right, good to know. I need to look more into the intricacies of legally using music for DJing, not sure if fair use applies to that at all...
@Nihilore exactly right... I think people think straight away about worst: the possibility of their work being exploited or modified in a way they don't approve of, without really thinking about how much that choice will prevent positive repurposing and potential spread. It probably says something about us humans and how much trust we put in fellow humans. It took me a while to realise how not all CC licences are inherently good, I guess. Will definitely release under CC-by.
