@lunduke About keeping files on a USB drive: When I had four or five different operating systems at once on my 120 GB Macbook, I kept all my main files on a teeny usb drive that I kept plugged in all the time, so I could access them from whichever distro I was in the mood for at the moment. When I got a System 76 laptop, I forced myself to be a grown-up and only install one distro on it. I kinda miss all the hopping though.

I hadn't come across that. It works mostly, though it doesn't access photos on my computer to post, which is a bummer. I hope it hasn't been abandoned, and they'll spiff that up one of these days, because that would be a wonderful app. Cheers!

I mostly just want a way to run Instagram (which I need for work), without being beholden to a lame operating system like iOS or Android. So that it doesn't interfere when a proper Linux phone comes within reach...

Running Instagram in a VM isn't a terrible idea for security reasons anyway.

Yeah, Anbox seems promising. Haven't fully gotten things working, but it's worth continuing to twiddle with.

Anyone have much experience with android emulators on Linux? If I could get that running on my desktop it would be a good piece in being able to step away from proprietary platforms needed just to run one or two proprietary apps. I'm trying out Anbox now.

Yup, that's a good way to go! We need to do more stuff out in the world too. We can get kind of hermit-like over here. :)

Yeah, that's good! I've been keeping the wifi off most of the time and just using the computer on ethernet.

Such a double edged sword, the internet...

Isn't that funny? :) I like it when the power goes out too, though that doesn't happen as much out west as when I lived in the midwest where we had big storms.

The internet company had to send out a guy, as the power supply was only sending half power to the internet box after turning off and on breaker to install a smoke alarm, but it was a really old power supply.

Internet's back on. It was out for 4 days, and it was kind of refreshing. But here I am on the internet again. I guess that's how they get you.

Do you have any thoughts about the search engine ecosia.org? I like the tree planting angle, and they say they are "privacy friendly," but I'm always skeptical. Just wondered what you think.

Sounds like home! I was a midwesterner, and it's still weird to me not having storms or tornadoes since I moved west. We have wildfires here instead, which is not better!

I love the multi-column UI too! I like having options like Pinafore out there, so folks can choose the layout they like.
