Thanks for the heads-up about Linux Fest NW. If I had scheduled my wedding for that day and not been able to come, it would have been the worst.

@kelbot Cool. And it's good that you can sideload Wire, as I use that too. It may be that eventually I'll get a separate device to quarantine the little bit of proprietary crap that I need for my business, and use a Lineage phone for my actual data.

Nice! I reset my tablet, signed out of all google stuff, installed fdroid and am only using fdroid apps. Don't know that it's perfect, but it's not too bad! It's a good preparation for getting something to put Lineage OS on.

Ah, nifty, thanks! Lineage has a much bigger list of compatible devices, which is promising, even if it doesn't include my weird little Hisense. 😀

Looking up custom Android Roms really makes me appreciate how you can for the most part install Linux on any ole hardware. And if one doesn't work, there are probably 17 other distros that will.

I wish I could test drive some de-googled android versions on my old gnarly off-brand tablet - most of them are only for Nexus or something super specific.

It seems pretty smooth on OpenSuse. The only problems I've had are a couple theming inconsistencies. Some apps seem to use GTK themes, some QT, but I have multiple DEs on here too, just booting now with LXQT. It's fast and stable thus far.
