The casual sexism, rape culture and homophobia of this film, which probably went unnoticed in 1973 when it was made, is bitterly sharp and prominent today. I have a feeling Welles knew this would be the case. He intended everything, all our reactions, even 45 years later.

This film is mesmerizing, but also sexually threatening. I love it and am repelled at the same time. That "John Dale" character, who runs around with his pants off a lot, is pretty hot. Why is Oja Kodar orange, though?

I'm a huge Orson Welles fan, and I'm watching "The Other Side of the Wind" for the first time. And, holy sh*t, what a weird movie!

Conversely, there was a rambling 4,000 word message from some guy who wanted me to start a debunking blog with him, evidently unaware that I quit the debunking business more than half a decade ago. Do you read dates on blog posts, bro?

So today I checked a very old email address, one I used to use when I was debunking conspiracy theories years ago. First time in over a year I've even looked at it, haven't used the email in 6 years. Nutters are still raging at me for things I wrote in 2012. Time stands still for these crazies, I guess.

Yes, I *am* working on the new episode of Second Decade podcast, whose summer/fall hiatus ends tomorrow. Been working on it all day and it's almost done.

Observation on Great British Baking Show: if your meat filled pie starts pissing pork fat when you take it out of the oven, you've got a problem.

GREAT night tonight at the Naked City Brewery in Seattle where I was on a panel discussing climate change. Huge turnout, enthusiastic crowd, great questions, good food and beer. And I got to see some old friends! Now I'm totally exhausted, but it was a good day.

Looking up my own books on Goodreads, which I haven't visited in months, and finding several positive reviews for my books is a nice surprise for the evening.

Today is my birthday. It always seems like my birthday falls on a Monday or Tuesday. Maybe I'm just forgetting the times when it hasn't.
