I really don't understand this "NPC" thing that right wingers are on about these days. I know where the term "NPC" comes from, but deploying it as a meme is just nonsensical, and making thousands of sockpuppet accounts on the birdsite is just a huge waste of time. It doesn't even rise to the level of an insult, because something has to make some kind of sense in order to be insulting. It's just bizarre.

Yes, they were! Giles Corey. In our simulation, Rebecca Nurse went rogue and accused everybody. They were amazed that she was convicted and executed in real life.

Just finished the Salem Witch Trials reenactment with my class of 7th graders. The toll: 1 hanged, 1 pressed to death, 1 acquitted, and all the kids shocked at how easy it was to destroy each other. I'd say the lesson was successful.

Years ago I randomly thought of a sentence that should be in a book somewhere. Disembodied, not part of any preconceived story.

"I left her on the beach at Shimonoseki, and I never saw her again."

I would literally write a whole novel just so I can use this sentence. Aside from the fact that it must obviously be a romance set in Japan, I have no other ideas. But such a beautiful sentence.

Rotary Club presentation went very well!

Speaking today on climate change at the Rotary Club. Hope it goes well. I admit I'm not sure what kind of audience this is going to be. 😕

November is almost upon us, and it's time to revisit my advice, as a writer, to starting writers. Don't do #NaNoWriMo. Just don't do it. You're a better writer than that. Trust me, you are.

My back pain is subsiding. You have no idea what a pleasure it is to be able to walk again...

@craigmaloney I need to get a cardigan and take my walker outside and yell at kids walking across my lawn.

Super awful back pain attack last night and this morning. So I'm using a walker today. I'm 45. The word "humiliation" doesn't begin to cover it.

Really not feeling well. Having a bad back really sucks.
