@mkb No decision is perfect. It's the effort that matters. Never stop putting in the effort. Sometimes it's a little more, so times it's a little less, but make the effort a habit.

@Miredly I wouldn't say a paradox, but rather a learning curve they didn't anticipate.

I split time between maintaining this instance and building my own project. Ha, that has take me to some interesting places I didn't anticipate, but I adapt because I want it to work.

However, that experience can be really overwhelming for someone on the fence.

I'm not trying to judge anyone or call any one out. I could care less about that.

Just be honest about what you're willing to contribute because people will be depending on that.

If you're going to put yourself out there as person who wants to build a community, you are responsible to the people that help you along the way.

There is no shame in not being ready for that. It's a fuck ton of work, professionally and personally.

But don't lie about it.

Sure, it's cool to talk about how you're an indie and an advocate for the open web, but what about when it hurts? What about when not taking shortcuts has a detrimental effect on your finances, your social life, your health? Is it still cool?

What we are doing has never been done before. It's going to be very difficult.

*grin* But this is the fun part. Where we can write the story.

Everyone has to decide for themselves if they want to be a part of it.

My progress with my own platform is slow but I want to make sure I have what I need in place for the long haul. Of course, I have the benefit of having a decade and a half of design and development experience, but even for me, this shit is tough.

We are going to have to work together. We are going to have to be open. We're going to have to be honest.

These basic points of integrity are showing how many people really want an open web and who doesn't.

@zacharius It would be pretty simple because it's just a combination of Terminal and just moving files around, but yeah I might do that.

So I've had about 5 hours of sleep in the last two day and I'm about 60% through my collection and I've only lost maybe 1 or 2 percent of my collection so far.

I am very, very pleased right now. Tired, but worth it.
