@mulander [jokin’] I have: add ‘127.0.0.1 reddit.com’ and ‘127.0.0.1 hackernews.com’ to /etc/hosts. Works like a charm 🤭

We have to be careful not to end up in a situation like about 16 years ago when websites were optimized for certain browsers. These days it is not #Microsoft Internet #Explorer but #Google #Chrome. Now it's the time to act if you care about a free and open web. Refuse to use Google Chrome! https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/4/16805216/google-chrome-only-sites-internet-explorer-6-web-standards

This is the best recap of the "corporations as slow AIs made of people" thread that's been on my mind lately:

Kinda wish there were some easy answers out there for this, but it's too huge.

@technomancy wait a minute, corporations as AIs…
“I used to find it odd that these hypothetical AIs were supposed to be smart enough to solve problems that no human could, yet they were incapable of doing something most every adult has done: taking a step back and asking whether their current course of action is really a good idea. Then I realized that we are already surrounded by machines that demonstrate a complete lack of insight, we just call them corporations.”

@thufir @pho4cexa same here. Though I have minimal requirements and I really enjoyed purging Google from my phone (and life).
I also recommend following:
Install a ‘recovery image’ for your phone (e.g. https://twrp.me/Devices/) and create a NANDroid backup (with a copy on an external drive). Play with whatever ROM you like. If you do not like it, go back and restore your backup.
That way you can safely experiment and at any time go back to the latest working system.

@arunisaac I use a hook to automatically apply ‘eww-readable’ function.
(add-hook 'eww-after-render-hook #'eww-readable)
I prefer this turned on by default. Maybe it could help.

@arunisaac you can wait, nothing game changing in there. Only small incremental improvements.

@arunisaac I recommend a version from the latest (pretest) Emacs; Lars still actively pushes improvements to Eww
