@arunisaac there is plenty of them if you do not mind lack of js support. If you want a secure, well maintained browser with JS then we can laugh-cry together.

Mozilla is doing stupid things, but they are relatively harmless. At the same time they do many, many good things https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/moss/

The recent faux pas is not a good reason to undertake a daunting task of creating a browser (js engine, layout engine and so on) from scratch.

@garrett @GIMP @patdavid @gutigen why do you compare Flatpak with old/‘weak’ package managers. What about Guix/Nix?

I can install Nix on Debian/Arch/AndSoOn and install Darktable/Gimp/AndSoOn with it.

Why I ‘need Flatpak’ in this case?

    Hi FP people.

    I'm a gamedev and Functional Programmer, mainly #purescript #haskell #elm atm, but still interested in Lisps #shen #clojure #racket

Currently researching ways to define language semantics, and how to implement languages in Haskell.

I also do Graphics Programming, so I'm into #rust and various shader languages, interested in how to use FP for games, rendering, and scripting 3d software like Maya

@turion @grainloom [Talking here from a perspective of Nix *and* Guix user]
unfamiliar syntax, is new, alien, difficult, but all of that disappears with time.

Nix DSL lacks tools, has unhelpful error messages and it is Nix lang + Shell inlined in Nix strings. Guix eDSL has mature tools, b/c it is embedded in a general purpose language.

For me they are both not optimal, b/c of lack of an adv. type system—but—Guix makes my life easier thanks to better tools inherited from Guile.

@neil the catch is to keep all your buckets up-to-date when there is a security issue. Containers create similar problems.

Snaps share philosophy with RubyOnRails: very easy to start, but it is a maintenance nightmare

I've found myself with a different attitude towards expiration dates since becoming a food #coop owner. Whereas in an extractive store I'd always look for the freshest of any perishable food, now I find myself picking the oldest one that I'll be able to consume in time in an effort to prevent waste.
Today there was quite a bit of milk on its last day (and also at 1/2 price), so I decided it was a good day to make some fresh mozzarella
