    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/68.0/releasenotes/

The new Firefox 68 release notes are quite educational:

    - They added a bunch of extension quality features: clearer permissions, recommended extensions program, reporting. THIS IS WHAT CHROME SHOULD HAVE DONE!
    - cryptomining and fingerprint protections
    - WebRender rolling out to more users by default
    - camera and microphone access requiring HTTPS

Firefox is really making the case for being the browser that has its users best interest at heart.

Huh? There are 113k git repos depending on this JS library, whose purpose is to find an available TCP port. By starting a listener, stopping it, and returning the port it got. Yes, race condition included. https://github.com/sindresorhus/get-port
(You can just specify port 0 and the operating system will pick an unused one for you)

@darius Thank you, I've been thinking about running my own server for friends for a while. Your article explains what to expect and what is involved.

I'm so frustrated that I've been paying google $2.79 per month to keep my trash items for the last couple of months because I didn't know to 'completely' delete them.

I'm so frustrated right now because google have changed their UI so many times, that I can no longer find a button to cancel my google drive subscription.

I'm extremely pleased to launch Run Your Own Social: How to run a small social network site for you friends.

This is a guide book to running a small, tight-knit federated social network server. It comes from my year of experience running Friend Camp. It's focused largely on SOCIAL solutions, though it does touch on the technical.

I've tried to keep it technology-neutral, and it should be a pretty easy read for anyone who's been on the fediverse for a while.

Leave tusky good reviews and mark the 1 stars as unhelpful, the trolls are throwing a review bombing tantrum because tusky won't bend to let them have their way. It RULES that they can't have their way and are so pressed about it but not at tuskys expense.

@Dee I read other Chuck Palahniuk and his writing is deliciously satirical. People will always find works to misinterpret, I think you might even enjoy Fight Club more because you don't need to spend effort trying to unpack who is the bad guy.

Idiocracy, however, is classicist. I felt like the movie made a statement but it wasn't the right one, then I read critique on it and... yeah.

Every time I see someone use "snowflake" as an insult, I want to remind them that Tyler Durden wasn't a good guy or a good person, and that when he told Project Mayhem "you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake" he was deliberately dehumanizing his victims to brainwash them into being in his cult.

So, sure, if you want to act like a cultist devoted to a homicidal villain, you go right ahead. Just be aware that's what you're doing.

I have no idea how they got my address. I avoided facebook booth at this year's Pycon, but I remember getting some Instagram swag in 2016.

I also signed up for 'facebook developer' account in a vain attempt to get a script to delete my old facebook posts, maybe I didn't check off a dark pattern checkbox for recruiters when I did that.

So I replied to email citing repeated user privacy issues and ethical violations by the company as the reason to decline a chat with the recruiter.

I followed by "I would like to politely decline the opportunity".

    That was a bit much..

Opt-out of course leads to facebook.com, but there is no way I'm clicking on that.

I still have my facebook account -- mostly so I could be in the loop of the events my friends are planning, but I don't click on facebook links unless I absolutely have to.

I got a recruiter email from facebook, a second one in a few weeks (the first one I ignored)., plite but a little forceful, almost like in spam email.

Email signature included opt-out link, GDPR privacy statement and accessibility accommodations.
