@uint8_t I've been vegetarian for a year.
I know it's not really effective -- collective action is way more effective than that, but this is my 'fuck you' in a general direction of those people by making choices that are under my control. This brings me some measure of peace.
I'm also going to invest in green technology -- acting on the belief that the most radical things are incremental ones, and hoping that we still have time for incremental stuff.
@uint8_t They are probably trolls and making your blood boil is the purpose of them being there -- so instead of acting you are upset about people on the internet.
(or this is a conspiracy theory I believe in and it helps me to get through the day)
I went to orange trash site and now I feel angry.
I'll be posting how I feel after going to orange trash site until I stop visiting orange trash site.

This is happened in August at the local Linux users group. #GTALUG
I really hope this would go better than it did, but due to some a/v issues (I'm also doing a/v ) I was pretty nervous when I began talking. My microphone didn't work for the first 2 minutes, also the most of the audience wasn't where the camera was, so I totally forgot to look at the camera.
The realization: the perfect audience for any advertising company is a person who’s impulsive, angry, frightened and tired. The cyclic relationships between what you see and how you feel and react means that any machine learning effort aimed at improving business outcomes for an advertising company will unavoidably optimize itself towards creating an audience that’s impulsive, angry, frightened and tired. The incentives don’t permit any other outcome, whatever the people working there say.
@tindall Is this job application comes from cobra high command or dr. evil?

I've collected some of my correspondence with people from FOSStodon to share my answers to some of the questions I see going around.
https://emsenn.net/essays/curated-thoughts-on-fosstodon/
I try and answer:
- What is a "Techbro"?
- Can FOSStodon Be Saved?
- How Can This Be Solved, Beside Discussion?
- What Should FOSStodon's Moderators Learn Right now?
- What's Wrong with Kev's Apology?

I would block fewer pleroma instances if it were easier to figure out who the admins are, and whether or not the problematic individuals are also admins. As things stand now, if there’s no CoC, I have to err on the side of instance blocking because it’s too much work to figure out wtf the instance’s deal is.
@Jo Having read his bullshit on F-Droid discussion thread, I have extra appreciation for your insult of the day.
I'm gonna give it a go, as well --
He's a parser. He's parsing every single word to remove any meaning from anything, and he does it with a determination of a computer.
Gab actually uses a custom user agent to grab stuff.
Mastodon does the same, but this makes it easy to make sure gab instances can't pull from you!
add
if ($http_user_agent ~* (gabsocial)) {
return 403;
}
To your nginx configuration. That blocks all requests with a user agent that includes "gabsocial" (case insensitive)
You can also add other user agents, at your leisure
It just returns a 403 if they try to pull
I see how moderation of peertube is a pretty big challenge. There a few more copyrighted videos there, but this one was particularly glaring for me for the other sets of reasons.
Support of 'Free speech' is a hard pass for me. Sorry.
Thank you for your reply.
@omnipotens @ChrisWere Hey Michael.
I'm just a bit concerned about ppl posting stuff like this -- https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/videos/watch/dc5e3b67-6b20-427e-8554-67627fdde8bf
Also I haven't seen CoC specifically for peertube section of the site. Does CoC from mastodon instance apply?
