No one “needs” as much clothing or books or tools as I enjoy being able to access, but what if EVERYONE had access to it instead of just me? And why shouldn’t they? Why should we envision a world where people are still wearing 1 Hermès tie with 1,000 sitting at home when everyone who wants to could wear one everyday? There is more than enough luxury stuff in the world to go around— let everyone share in the silk and the cashmere and perfume. MAKE everyone share it.

The problem with the idea of “respecting the office of President” is that it completely abstracts the thing that should be respected, which is the people, not a big desk on a plush carpet with a bald eagle on it. The office means nothing. A president should respect the people, and since they don’t? Maybe the office and the position are the problem.

There is a Facebook group with over 1800 people in it (200 added since YESTERDAY) dedicated to mocking a good friend of mine. Her crime? She's a beauty writer. Yup, she writes about fucking MAKEUP on the internet.

The site is called "Stop [My Friend] Now and Forever" and yesterday, members of this group posted pictures they'd taken of her OUTSIDE HER HOME.

No surprise, Facebook doesn't find that this violates their community standards.

When I got to the window, I told the comrade working there thank you for all of his hard work, and that it doesn’t go appreciated, and that it must be difficult particularly during this season. He told me he had been there since 6:00 AM and there were 4 workers there all day— 2 working the front windows and 2 who have been sorting packages and assembling extra shelves because of how many they have right now because of holiday orders.

@tcql I would never do those 3 years of hell in exchange for health insurance and a solid paycheck over again, but the stories I have from it are often hilarious, and the things I learned about the financial industry that are entirely hidden from the vast majority of people were extremely... edifying, shall we say.

When I used to be an executive assistant at a fund of hedge funds, my boss, who had absolute faith in the abstracted numbers of which his business was solely comprised, scoffed at Bitcoin saying, “I would never invest in that! It’s entirely made up!”
