@bea @chr I mean, to be clear, the thing i'm saying here is that i just want to build federated tumblr. that's it.

@bea @chr mmmmmmm i dunno it's kind of a different thing. if I just reblog something and add tags, it's a much much different vibe then quote-tweeting it, even if I do add a snarky comment. It's the difference between holding something up to make fun of it, and mostly supporting something while also making fun of *yourself* (because remember, now it's on your blog and the non-metadata content is the original post still)

@bea @chr that's fair but it's a fun talk anyways and also now that i'm looking back it's really somewhat tangential to my original point, which is basically just that i don't like microblogging.

@bea @chr mmmm it's hard to explain what I mean without an appreciation of how tag fandom works, which is kind of hard to get nowadays as platforms evolve and it becomes an anthropological curiosity. http://idlewords.com/talks/fan_is_a_tool_using_animal.htm is a reasonable introduction.

@chr @bea but I don't see a way to fix that that also doesn't just throw microblogging out the window so........

@bea @chr personally I think hashtags and groups are both DOA in mastodon b/c it doesn't have a separate metadata section for tagging but that's just me.

@bea @chr someone should point me to a doc about how groups actually work

@gargron glad it's popular! it's a strategy that's worked really really well for other social networks in the past and I think it works even *better* with mastodon then it does for them

also it gives me a reason to whip my account in to shape lol :P
