@szbalint @sydneyfalk It does not have to break, it has to evolve. That can be done nicely (v2, v3, …), so people/devs can cat5ch up. Just in the same way as you use semantic versioning. That's what we see with HTTP->HTTP2, TLS and many standard protocols. It works, and it is standardized.

@imo Das mit dem Hängen wird mit Firefox 57 behoben sein. (e10s) RAM-Verbrauch sollte aber auch schon jetzt wesentlich niedriger sein.

Und performance ist wirklich angestiegen. Kannst Firefox Dev Edition oder Beta testen. Der Grund ist einfach, dass sie den kompletten Unterbau erneuert haben, jetzt teilweise Rust-Code verwenden und eben ein Multiprozesssystem (e10s). Genau dass sind auch die Gründe, warum alte Addons nicht mehr funktionieren, aber da werden ja aktuell viele portiert und auch Chrome/ium-Addons sollten dann funktionieren.

@thomas Wenn es das tut, dann wird es aber sicher nicht am Geld liegen. Pursim hat ja schon Erfahrung mit Crowdfunding-Aktionen und ihre Laptops haben sie auch heraus bekommen… die haben auch ihren Markt. Sicher klein, aber ich denke bei denen kann dies etwas werden. U.a. da sie eben auch verstanden haben, dass man mehrere Distros auf einem Linux-Gerät lauffähig haben möchte.
