@h You've really thought this through. I think you're right about providing a new thing, especially since I'm seeing a rising desire for a whole new web. Of course, those calls are fragmented voices in the wilderness, but you have to start somewhere.

@h I'm picturing the virtual bookshelf stocked with virtual books in a virtual from my interface class almost 20 years ago.

@h Well, the whole original point of the web was to connect research projects, and some of the more reputable news sources still source each other through links. So, it doesn't seem that hard to me to revive that culture. We simply need to start doing it.

@h I like it. That would transfer nicely to paper. The line between ebooks and real books would be blurred.

@h Once again, your ideas are taking me while to get my head around, but from what little I understand, they have a lot of promise. I look forward to watching this develop.

Trying to get my head around ActivityPub. It's a microblogging protocol, and maybe for long-form blogging, and maybe a replacement for email. I think.

If it's 2017, then I've been using Linux on the desktop exclusively for 10 years. That's on top of lurching erratically between Mandrake/Red Hat/Gentoo/Ubuntu and Mac OS for eight years prior to that. I don't even know what my first distro was, because a friend installed it, and the machine died within two weeks.

@Stoori, any progress on an ethical on-demand printer? If not, maybe we need to start one.

@neil Well, I'm in the US, and I listen to Up First from NPR and The Daily from the New York Times. There's an English-language podcast from Deutschewelle, and of course, there's the BBC. If you know of others, I'd be glad to learn about them.

@Antanicus I never liked Unity, but it would make sense to have it on a tablet.

@cstanhope @mmeyer I find it weird that they want to charge for Collabora, Etherpad, etc., on top of Nextcloud.
