Winamp's tag editor corrupted the first track on the new album of #Pendulum remixes and is now convinced it is 22kHz and 5:55, so now it's a really bizarre drum&drone track. I dig it.
@ckeen Radio Ecoshock occasionally interviews people working on capture and sequestration. There's a somewhat promising tech in Iceland called CarbFix (and CarbFix2) that was reviewed a couple years back.
Ecoshock is pretty dire, but the creator orders each episode from worst to best news, and sometimes the best news is about sequestration. But recently a study was highlighted that suggested the most effective re-capture tech is probably replanting forests.
@aeonofdiscord Mostly the former. Local db requests are relatively insignificant.
But also, knowing which nested Account is the most recent, if the same Account appears dozens of times in the same API payload (sometimes as Status.account, sometimes as Status.reblog.account, in no guaranteed order.)
I wonder if there's anything stopping mastodon from firing off duplicate WebFinger requests when it gets a list of Status objects containing multiple posts from the same Account...
We're targeting the low end - single user or a couple users, no background queue, running on SQLite*. Efficiency is important. Firing off an API call to a foreign server to get data that we just got is not a great idea.
* actually, anything Django supports. We're aiming for flexible, but optimizing for extremely low-resources so you don't need a full GB of RAM to run a single-user instance.
Foreign user account information is embedded in incoming Status messages. Problem: how to decide when to update the account info (e.g. avatar changed).
First theory: if `updated_at` is newer, update the account. But `updated_at` isn't in the payload.
Second theory: if `statuses_count` is higher, update the account.
Nope. Mastodon fires off a WebFinger for each account once a day. Even though all the data we need is already in the Status payload we just got.
@emsenn ugh, I hated how that episode ended. I can't tell if the writers were deliberately framing Janeway's character, or if they were just too lazy to come up with another solution to put everything back to TV Normal. And that's pretty lazy, given that Transporter Clone Riker was already a thing by this point (I think...)
@koyu I already do that, with a custom build of ConnectBot that supports mosh to my VPS, where I can code in vim. A more complete IDE would be nice, but it works for most on-the-go coding I do. Also, a slide-out physical keyboard makes a huge difference.
@djbusstop uuugh. That really sucks. I wish that shit weren't so common. It's not good for the team or company either, who turn down perfectly good candidates and then complain about how hard recruiting is... Not to mention filling teams with the sort of pedantic nerds who excel at random pointless coding trivia is not great for productivity, either...
1. Find a job listing that's maybe compatible with my long-term sustainability needs. 2. Check the company career page, find it is covered in pictures of the team having fun outside of work. Halloween parties, zorb balls in the park, archery, maybe skeet shooting? 3. Decide I'm too old and way too unhip; close the tab.
@adam I've wanted RDP on Linux for years. It's such a good protocol, you have to wonder how it came from MicroSoft... Because it didn't - the core of it came from a strongarm deal they made with Citrix...
Can't empathise the usage of #AndStatus enough as a fediverse app for anyone that wants an app that functions even with the worst internent connection great. For example will it load first the text and makes it visable and usable, befor avatar images and such are loaded. Data is stored, so if internent connection isn't permanent you still can read posts and reply to them. AndStatus will do synchronize in the backround.
It's a python script that runs a bot that implements groups. Technically you don't even need to be an admin on an instance, but it is probably polite to ask.
Hey since this server might die, can someone at least turn on the archive export function before it does? hchttps://social.coop/media/2RBrrXRvxa06Og7Y25g
