Maybe all generalized, non-topical social media is toxic. Probably humans are toxic.
I think I need a break.
(ffs, please cw meta so I can filter it. the network is over two years old; start using it instead of talking about it.)

@tiphra She might be right, but not in a particularly useful way. In my own experience, short-term distraction is useful during acute existential crises, while long-term objectives are for when the crisis has passed. Play videogames or binge netflix today, figure out a better plan tomorrow.
A bot that listens for multi-word hashtags, generates a video of a screen reader saying the alllowercase and CorrectlyCapitalized versions and chimes in on threads to show the difference.
My last toot was a test - when posting in AndStatus, the 'Title' field is used for CWs on Mastodon. I've been avoiding posting on my phone because I wasn't sure if I could CW things.
Because everybody should CW things. Even if you yourself don't care; you can treat it as a post title (remember blogging?) and set your client to autoexpand CWs.
@celesteh True. It's really a matter of scale. Convince one hunter to only eat the meat they themselves kill, instead of convincing them to stop hunting, and you have a net positive. It's also good to bring wolves back, and that's happening in the US to a degree, in part due to work by the same government offices that regulate hunting licenses.
As a #vegan, I don't get the current vitriol against hunting. Filling in for a scarce predator like a wolf for a day, vs applying process engineering to "optimize" raising livestock? It's no contest. One is relatively neutral, on balance (assuming careful herd management practices) and the other is actively trying to maximize harm.
I'm still at four days ago, but strongly considering blocking all mentions of the birdsite's real name. Less meta, pls.
Me ten years ago: why does America think "liberal" is a bad word?
Me now: Fuck Liberals. They're just spinelesss milquetoast centrists who mistakenly think they're "left wing."
@xor Oh, given that you're using Python, you might find this useful: https://github.com/SamR1/python-twootfeed
I made use of that to do some Mastodon-to-RSS work and along the way ended up scripting up creating a Mastodon App and authenticating, which you might find handy. (See `create_mastodon_client.py` which is quick and dirty but saves a ton of work.)
@xor I'd probably make use of that bot. I already do send a lot of things out of mastodon into a (private-ish) RSS feed, but knowing those things are also archived elsewhere would be nice.
@redoak I, too, am a Django developer looking to join a dev coop.
@garbados I've been having an inexplicable urge to try my hand at making some, after seeing a couple good videos on its history and critical analysis. It's so much more interesting than it seems at first.
The #Django 2.1 release is... not great. I keep finding regressions and/or unannounced changes as I'm updating #TastyPie to run on it. A bunch of it is due to refactors that I don't particularly agree with, but in any case I'm strongly considering changing the TastyPie release schedule to only support LTS releases.
@jjg #AndStatus is my favorite, but I have specific needs, like never losing my last-read position in the home timeline.
If you were going to create and popularize an "end-to-end encrypted" messaging service specifically to log metadata to overlay on top of Facebook data and figure out which activists are going to "cause trouble" by standing up to the fascists...
Well, it'd look a lot like #Signal.
(RP for CW, whoops)
Relevant.

@ghost yeah, saw that later. I live about a day or two behind in my masto feed. Still, that's a relief.
@ghost dammit.
What wastes more electricity? Mining bitcoin, or tracking users with javascript?
Why _is_ Tay on Mastodon?
