I hope to make a "how it works" page for non-tech users at join.fediverse.party (explaining Fedi platforms), so this was "a rehearsal' of the idea :)

@liaizon Yep, I had doubts about Funkwhale and GNU Social (one doesn't properly federate yet, the other may soon be cut off unless it adds AP). This can easily be tweaked any time as all images have SVG sources.

@andycuccaro As for inspiration resources, there're many websites-collections of UI screenshots, the only one I have bookmarked is https://collectui.com Some good examples can be found on Dribbble, although a lot of works there are too fancy ( = would be a nightmare to code)

@andycuccaro I think some newer projects (Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube and others) have started with modern (= relevant to today's "standards") UI in mind. Older projects like diaspora, Friendica, Hubzilla have a large codebase and some of those have a lot of features, that's why I think it's challenging to rethink some of the UI decisions previously made there. The good part is this is FOSS, which means no special teams of designers, so I guess any and all help is welcome :)

@andycuccaro Thank you! I haven't tried to rethink Friendica UI yet: Vier theme looks nice in its minimalism, would be faster to build up on it. But it's a big endeavour and I'm postponing it a bit. Would also be interesting to prototype Hubzilla UI. Seeing how Mobilizon will look like (at the end of October?) will probably help with new ideas. Please, join these design challenges. :)

@jaywink Your replies now federate without mentioning the user who's being addressed, so the message isn't shown in Mastodon's Notifications column. Users may see such posts only in their Home timeline. If they don't read it thoroughly, they'll probably miss all replies from Socialhome :(

@jaywink The instance I'm on hasn't updated yet, not sure. Should be in the UI. Try to look at it the other way: using 1 email for decades you make all your online life dependent on it. How much would it hurt if you somehow lost access to it or it got compromised? Now think of users who (have to) use 5-10 emails for different purposes... I believe Frama-users won't swap Fedi for Fb willingly because what Framasoft has been doing is *not* only about tech, but also about educating people.

@jaywink AFAIK, latest Mastodon release lets users migrate to a new account without loosing followers. And Hubzilla (if Framasoft hosted one) would allow them to clone profiles to another hub so that nothing would be lost. This, I agree, is up to software people - to make federating platforms less painful in an unstable environment.
